best sport high top, November 4, 2009
i've had weak ankles all my life played 3 sports(gave up football after high school)and never had a shoe that was comfortable and protective.in my later years i took up tennis and found that the old problem was still there.i bought a few different types of tennis and basketball shoes.k-swiss made a high top for tennis and then quit making them.i decided to look at basketball high tops and happened upon the bb888 made by new balance(who i thought just made tennis shoes).they were light in weight, solid in the design fit and i have yet to roll an ankle.just recently i found them on sale(at amazon.com)and decided i'd better get 2 pair.i have purchased 5 pairs of these shoes since finding them.i am hoping that since they were on sale that they are not going to quit making them.as long as i am playing i will continue to buy these shoes.for me they are the best and amazon.com gets them to me very quickly.do not stop making these shoes!!!

Great ankle and foot support. I recommend this shoe for anyone that has had problems with plantar facaitis in the past.

Actually, 4-1/2 stars..., May 14, 2009
This review is from: New Balance Men's BB888 Basketball Shoe (Apparel)
Once these shoes are on, they are THE BEST I've worn so far during this time of my life.
I've gained weight, had two knee replacements, and developed really weak ankles.
These shoes (and some custom orthotic inserts) give me such great stability and comfort in my ankles and feet, that my knees are no longer torqued and strained and fatigued so quickly.
These shoes have allowed me to get over a "hump" in my rehab from surgeries, and I think they should be standard V.A. issue shoes for knee rehab patients, especially those with diabetes.
The toe cavity is plenty big here, so if you are worried about that, don't.
Get a pair of the black too. They shine up really nice, and if you take a marker and blacken the gray "N", you can wear them with casual slacks and few people if any will notice you have tennies on.
Also, my religious services are historically long--1-1/2 to 2 hours long and you stand a LOT. Though it is traditional at my church to remove your shoes, I wear these during services with my priest's blessing, and they allow me to remain focused and pain free for the entire service.
The only bad mark is that they are difficult to lace at first (different style of "eyelets", but if you take your time you will eventually learn how to put them on and take them off with minimal effort.
