4.0 out of 5 stars A great all-around shoe.
I do a whole lot of walking in the city where some places it's just quicker and more convenient to walk to certain places. ive gotta say something though, which may be a factor in my bad experience... the shoes looked as though they were used when i got them. maybe they were. there were human hairs, complete with follicles on the insole that i had to clean out before trying them out. some grime on the bottom i scrubbed off too. gross. i returned em. i wouldve liked to give a NEW pair a shot,...

5.0 out of 5 stars New Balance Men's M587 Running Shoe, November 20, 2006
The New Balance Men's M587 Running Shoe has been an excellent running shoe. It has a built in rollbar that prevent shin-splints and the shoes are extremely comfortable to run-in. I have been buying this shoe for over four years and two deployments to Iraq. I recommend this shoe to any runner that runs 4-5 times a week.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most comfortable tennis shoes I have ever owned., January 10, 2007

These shoes are so light that sometimes I forget I have them on. They are so comfortable than I don't want to take them off. I have to walk a lot every day and I am not kidding when I said that any other pair of shoes make my feet sore after a few hours of use, but these shoes do the job to perfection.
I highly recommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars America's Best, February 24, 2004

I've owned New Balance shoes, as well as other brands, since 1977. Their quality is unsurpassed. When running in the harsh winters of northern New York, they stand up. It's especially nice to know they're made in one of six New Balance factories in the United States. In addition, I have a wide foot. Few brands offer width-sizing for my EE-size foot.

I've been using New Balance running shoes for some 20 years now, and the M587 (and its predecessors, the M586 and M585) for much of that time. When I started using New Balance shoes I stopped having the troubles with my knees that I'd been having with other running shoes. I go almost everywhere in the M587--I even teach my university courses wearing the M587! The M587 is simply the best running shoe--and most comfortable shoe of any type--that I've ever owned. I hope to keep using the M587 well into the new milenium. I might also add that Amazon.com prices the M587 substantially below the price charged by my previous online supplier.

4.0 out of 5 stars These Shoes Stink... Literally!, May 19, 2010
By
This review is from: New Balance Men's M587 Running Shoe (Apparel)
First let me say that I've been running in NB 587's for about 12 years. I'm 6-4, 220 lbs and in my opinion the support they give a big person is great. However, the last pair of running shoes I bought were Asic's for one reason only. My last two pairs of New Balance 587's give off a horrendous stench that smells very much like a cat's litter box. I noticed it at first when my next-to-last pair of 587's had been replaced and relegated to yard work shoes so I thought it had something to do with old components breaking down in the environment the shoes were being used in. But my most recent pair had to be replaced by new running shoes after only a few months, not because of wear, but because I couldn't stand the stink anymore! What's more I couldn't even move them into the "knock around shoes" category because of the smell. I tried leaving them in my garage but after it became nauseating to enter the garage I started leaving them outside on the back porch to wear when working in the yard. This didn't work either because my wife couldn't take the smell even when I was wearing them. Reluctantly, but it was very necessary, I simply had to throw them out with lots of shoe still left to be used. Seinfeld should have done a show on the stench of New Balance 587's instead of the the B.O. of the parking valet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me, January 3, 2007

No shoe or brand is going to work for everyone, but I'm convinced the New Balance 587 is the best one for me. I'm a big ol' fat boy (6'2", 210lbs) with feet that are stupid wide (13EEEE). I started running in my late 40s and ran my first marathon at age 49, and I haven't used any other running shoe for the past several years. When I hit 350-400 miles, I get a new pair, convert my running pair to my walking pair, and throw out the current walking pair.

5.0 out of 5 stars great running shoes, October 21, 2005

I am on my third pair of these and they are great. I jog about 12 miles a week, so I normally get a new pair every year. Since the old pair is still good, I simply keep them as walking shoes.
The 587 is light and very breathable (not good for cold weather). Cushion is enough, but I would like more. It is also durable, I could have wearing them for over 2 years, easy.
I used to get those inexpensive running shoes and once I go with the 587, I am not going back. As a matter of fact, it is time for me to get a new pair!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable, excellent running shoes, July 20, 2008
I purchased this pair based upon the excellent reviews it had received. It lived up to the hype, and I'm very happy with this purchase.

The New Balance Men's M587 is extremely comfortable to wear, and it has a massive sole to support and balance your feet properly during running. It can worn both at the gym and are great for casual wear as well.

Two thumbs up from me...highly recommended!
