5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tennis Shoe
I bought the New Balance MC804 tennis shoe through Amazon, it was the first time I bought shoes without trying them on first, I was a little worried about that. I need a wide shoes, and other name brand tennis shoes do not understand what wide means. The MC804 fits like a glove, there was no break in at all, usually my right foot is a little pinched until brake in width...

1.0 out of 5 stars Why did they change it?
I am a three times to four times a week tennis player and I have worn New Balance 800 series shoes for years. I went thru, 801, 802 and most recently 803 shoes. I loved the comfort and stability of the shoes. When my last pair of 803s started to reach end of playing life, I went online to get another pair. No more 803s, now it was 804s. This review is from: New Balance Men's MC804 Tennis Shoe (Apparel)
Since there is not a New Balance store where I now live (I used to live near one so I could do try on the new shoes), I just ordered a pair. After all, the shoe had not changed much thru at least three ititerations and I had loved it every time. It was comfortable, gave good support and was very stable. Well, I got the 804s and quickly noticed that they were way different. They were much narrower thru the forefoot both inside and outside and did not seem to give the same support or comfort. I gritted my teeth and played with them anyway. What a mistake. Within two weeks, I was hit with Plantar Fasciitis. The shoes have gone into the Salvation Army box, I found a pair of New Balance 655 shoes at the local sporting goods that seems very close to the old 803s and I am wearing those, with orthotic inserts to try and cure my foot problems. For the life of me I can't imagine why New Balance threw out the whole character of the pervious shoes in that series. If they wanted to make a different type of shoe, give it a totally different number. I am very disappointed and I know I will never again be able to just order a shoe of trust that it will be like the previouos ones in the series.

3.0 out of 5 stars New Balance MC804, June 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought these as a replacement for my New Balnce 803's from 3 years ago. These new 804's don't seem to have the same level of cushion support or arch support as the 803's so they aren't as comfortable. Otherwise they are pretty much the same shoe but I am disappointed that this model seems to be a downgrade from the 803 line.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Tennis Shoe, December 25, 2010

I bought the New Balance MC804 tennis shoe through Amazon, it was the first time I bought shoes without trying them on first, I was a little worried about that. I need a wide shoes, and other name brand tennis shoes do not understand what wide means. The MC804 fits like a glove, there was no break in at all, usually my right foot is a little pinched until brake in width wise with other brands, not with New Balance. I use them for Zumba and they perform great, very comfortable, I would recommend them to anyone looking for tennis shoes.

2.0 out of 5 stars Painful, August 20, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I normally wear size 8 1/2, but this pair was so tight across the front (just behind my toes) that I couldn't keep them on for more than 30 seconds. The rest of the shoe was the right size, but that front part felt as though I was wearing a hose clamp. Sent them back right away.

Would a larger size have been OK? Maybe, but I then just shopped locally and found what I needed (turned out to be a New Balance, #655).

I like these tennis shoes because they provide good upper leather support, lateral court stability, and are available in wider sizes........

as well as reasonably priced!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Tight, Could not wear, November 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This particular model (Mens MC804) in my "normal" New Balance size 14D was way too tight, and

I had to return the item. I have purchased two prior New Balance tennis sneakers online before

that still fit perfectly today.

4.0 out of 5 stars For 2E Wearers This is Your Tennis Shoe, November 1, 2011

A few years ago, I switched to NB upon finding out that NB offers a 2E width. The 804 is my everyday walking shoe. I have worn-out three pairs of the 804s since becoming a loyal buyer of this make/model. The main thing that I like about the 804 is they feel "right" as soon as I put them on. There is zero "break in" time. They are comfortable and provide me with the support I need for the types of activities I do in them (elliptical machine and city walking). I do a lot of walking in these shoes. I've never had a blister or any other shoe-related foot problem. The only reason I didn't give them 5-stars is that the shoes only hold up for about 6 months before having to be replaced. So, in effect, I'm spending over $150 a year on tennis shoes! For that amount of money, I would expect somewhat better craftsmanship, but that might be asking too much in this day and age. Overall, if you need a 2E width tennis shoe, you will be hard pressed to do better than the NB 804.

Used this brand of shoes for 10 years playing a lot of tennis. They do everything you want and then some. I'll buy them next time too.

I've had these shoes for about a month. They are comfortable and seem to be holding up well. I expect that I will order these shoes again in the future.
