My husband is in the Army, and goes through new running shoes about every 4-5 months. He's tried all different brands and levels of shoe. This time, I strongly encouraged him to get the absolute best running shoe the New Balance store offered, along with the additional super-duper insoles. 3.0 out of 5 stars DECENT SHOE - NOT SURE WHY THEY ARE FALLING APART SO EASILY
I started buying this type of running shoe, back when they had the 1221... I loved that shoe, and then they stopped making them, and I had to buy the 1222, and then the 1223, and now the 1224... but I'm kinda over it. I run an average of about 20-35 miles a week. My 1224s (both pairs) just fell apart way too quickly. I ended up switching out to another brand called...

My husband is in the Army, and goes through new running shoes about every 4-5 months. He's tried all different brands and levels of shoe. This time, I strongly encouraged him to get the absolute best running shoe the New Balance store offered, along with the additional super-duper insoles. It was pricier than usual, but after all, you only have one body, so you might as well take care of it, right? Well, this morning, he called me right after taking a PT test (after taking the second half of the summer off of training) to enthusastically thank me for making him get the shoes, and excitedly exclaim that, not only did he shave a minute off his run time, but felt INCREDIBLE. His hips and knees didn't hurt like usual, and the term he used to desribe his new shoes was "phenomenal."

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Shoes!!!!!!, March 4, 2009

Great shoes! I've bought NB for years but recently had some physical therapy for my knees. The therapist analyzed my gait and recommended stability-plus shoes to correct a slight pronation problem. These shoes were on the list he gave me. Good stability and cushioning while running, thoroughly comfortable. I'd gladly purchase them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Greatest shoe i've every owned!, January 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This shoe is by far the best i've ever owned. I walk a lot an run on the tread mill an with my previous shoe i used to get blisters a lot an my feet would be sore, but I have not had that problem with the 1224. I recommend it just for everyday use, walking, running, etc...

5.0 out of 5 stars New Balance fan, August 19, 2009
This is my second pair of 1224's, after two pairs of 1223's. New Balances just fit me better. The 1224's have a nice blend of stability and cushioning. The only shoe I've found comparable are the Saucony Hurricanes. The kicker for New balance is that they are the last of the major sports shoe companies that make a real effort to have their shoes assembled in the U.S. If I were to suggest any changes, it would perhaps be a little more forefoot cushion. By the way, you will love the laces: they stay tied due to their unique design.

I've worn NB shoes for over 10 years now and love them. I've been wearing this style for the last 8 years. Only problem here is that the size I buy is 11 1/2. I've never bought shoes online before because I was always afraid that they wouldn't fit or be comfortable and then I would have to deal with returning them etc. I thought that since I've been wearing NB shoes for over 10 years and have always bought size 11 1/2 that I was safe buying through Amazon. Well of course the came and they were too small. So I had to pay to return them and another $5 exchange fee so I lost all the money I saved by buying them through Amazon. No complaint about this seller as they shoes arrived promptly and I was notified of all the shipping dates etc. and a slight change in the size is out of their control. Only suggestion would be that they include a UPS return label to make that easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Balance MR1224 Running Shoe, November 23, 2008
Great shoes. Very comfortable and no break-in necessary as I took them out of the box and ran several miles.

Good buy

3.0 out of 5 stars DECENT SHOE - NOT SURE WHY THEY ARE FALLING APART SO EASILY, January 28, 2011

I ended up switching out to another brand called Ghost... and I like them more that the 1224s, and slightly less than the 1221s. I have to say that these shoes are just not worth the money. I felt justified in spending that much money, when I was buying the 1221s, but these shoes are just not worth it.

I have flat feet and suffer from pronation. I needed stability shoes for regular everyday use. For last 8 months I have been using New Balance MR1224. I am very impressed with these shoes. These shoes are very comfortable and made from high quality materials.

I will highly recommend these shoes to anybody. If you really want comfortable shoes, go for these shoes, you will not regret.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very comfortable., February 26, 2010

This shoe runs a little small and a little tight. Order a half size longer and wider. I ordered 13 eeee and it was still a bit short and the width was just right despite not having ultra wide feet.

That said, this is a very comfortable and "cushy" shoe. I am 6'5" and 240 and this shoe is far and away the most cushioning running shoe I've ever worn. New Balance has such a large selection of wide widths that I've simply given up bothering with any other manufacturer. I've owned many pairs for many years and I continue to be impressed. I think the 1224 is the best fitting running shoe I've ever worn and I'll be buying several pairs.
