My feet have been fine though, and since then, I've gone for about 4-5 more walks, and no pain whatsoever.

These shoes look great. The shoes need a two day break in period, after that they're like a glove. From a technical standpoint, the shoes really help with my shin splints. The technical description says it all:

The New Balance 1770 is packed with cutting-edge technologies, from its featherweight REVlite cushioning to the luxurious no-sew welded upper. N-ergy shock absorption extends beyond the crash pad into the midfoot to accommodate not only traditional heel strike runners, but also those who land on the midfoot. The performance-fit upper hugs the foot but is forgiving enough for most foot shapes, and the modified Stabilicore medial support mildly stabilizes the gait so even light overpronators can sport this neutral-cushioning shoe. Colors: Red + Grey

FYI New Balance's numbering system has changed recently - anything that ends in 80 is neutral (880, 1080).
70 = very mild stability so with medium arches

I run, about 800-1000 miles a year. and each year I alternate between two pairs, ASICS and New Balance models. The MR1770 is the best of 8 pairs over the last 4 years. My shoes handle over pronation, metatarsal and tendonitis troubles, and I'm 180 , so the shoe has it's hands full, The MR1770 is the best of them, they are light, very responsive, they don't leave my feet bashed and bruised after a 10 or a 20 mile training run either. They look fine after 500 miles, held up great, I still wear them around the house. ... FYI , I finally figured NB out, so if you didn't know , NB models have last two digits for type of shoe, 70 is light cushioning, 60 is stability and so forth. The first digit or two is the build level , the higher the better, so 870 and 1770 are both light stability, but 1770 is a higher build level. Until everything changes again anyways. NB stopped making these last year , the MR870 is its replacement , and they did fine in 2013, but if you can find the MR1770 , get 'em, IMHO.
