4.0 out of 5 stars 4E my foot...
I ordered the gray, 11.5 4E (yes, I'm a big active dude with a big wide foot). Are these things really 4E??? 2.0 out of 5 stars right OK, left not
I was initially pleased with the MW645's, but now I am not at all pleased with them. The right shoe is fine, but the left shoe has developed a noise that bugs me tremendously. Every other step I take sounds similar to a dry door hinge. The noise started after wearing them all day at the county fair, which included climbing a hill several times and spending about three...

4.0 out of 5 stars 4E my foot..., September 9, 2009

I ordered the gray, 11.5 4E (yes, I'm a big active dude with a big wide foot). Are these things really 4E??? It says 4E on the label on the tongue, but I wonder, I just walked a couple miles from my car to work and they felt kinda pinchy. However, I'll assume they'll break in and also, I loosened the laces some more. But they just don't _look_ 4E, I have some terrific trail running shoes from NB I bought a few years back (won't dare use those babies on my walk to/from work on sidewalks, they're too sweet too wear 'em out like that!) and they fit so great from the start. These have me kind of worried. Also the sole seems a little stiff and clompy, I assume that that too will change with breaking in.

But I'm not knocking a star for these fears. No, I'm knocking a star because these shoes are made in China. There should be some mention of this on the page for the shoes, either there isn't or I was too dum to find it. When the heck did NBs start being made in China? I have nothing against the Chinese but dang, I want to support US businesses all I can with what little money I have to spend. So I guess my days of blindly assuming I'll buy NB shoes are over, just like my days of telling people to just buy a Dell. Great. Just great. Grrrr....

UPDATE:

Ok, it's been a week so here's my update. They still feel a bit too pinchy. I tried to loosen the laces as much as I could to make up for that, to the point that there is visible slack in the laces. The shoes were a tad clompy to start with, I suppose due to the stiffness of the soles, but now with the loose laces they are much too much like flip-flops for my liking, and I clip-clop way too often when walking. This is making them sound horrible, which they are not, I've had horrible shoes and these are not that bad, they just really weren't made for big wide feet like mine, and I'm used to a softer, more responsive sole. So I'm more unhappy after a week of wear than I was initially, and will have to save up some more $$ to buy another pair. I'm pretty sure it won't be another pair of these or anything like them, and I'm not too sure it will be New Balances at all, to be honest.

Every other step I take sounds similar to a dry door hinge. The noise started after wearing them all day at the county fair, which included climbing a hill several times and spending about three hours in a concession stand. At first I thought I had stepped in something sticky, but no amount of cleaning has made any difference. In addition to that, the insert has started hurting the side of my heel. I owned another pair of NB shoes that developed a similar noise that never went away.

4.0 out of 5 stars good shoe except on wet tile, December 30, 2009

I am very happy with this shoe after about 25 miles. They are excellent on the gravel walking paths in my area. My only complaint is that the tread is too slippery on tile flooring when the shoes are wet. It rains a lot where I live. The entry way flooring in my house is tlle and I had slipped there right after I got the shoes but thought maybe they needed to be roughed up a bit by normal wear. But I did not view this as a problem until last night when I stopped at a fast food resturant, to use their restroom, and the shoes slipped as I made a turn on the tile floor. I have not had a problem on any other type of flooring or pavement.

and so far the soles are holding up nicely. For whatever reason, soles on other shoes seem to wear very unevenly. They seem to wear away on the insides quite quickly. These New Balance shoes show little signs of such wear.

I have been wearing New Balance shoes for more than twenty years. Recently, I have been unhappy with the sizing. The MW 645 fits my 15D quite well. I have rarely won anything else since I got them.

5.0 out of 5 stars New Balance Mens MW645 Country Walkers, May 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
These are the most comfortable sneaker-type shoes that I have ever owned. They were comfortable without a break-in period and seem to be true to size. They have a slightly knobby sole compared to regular walking shoes, but not as extreme as some trail runners. The only problem I have found with them is that topmost lace comes too close to the end of the tongue and sometimes slips over it. Other than that, I am extremely happy with them, though it may take some work on your part finding them. Durability-wise they seem to be well constructed.

I ordered these (in grey) for my husband and received them promptly. The largely monotone color and the suede make for a pretty classy looking pair of sneakers. Since my husband sometimes wears them to the office, where he's frequently on his feet, it's great to have something that looks less casual than, say, a running shoe. My husband loves the fact that they feel light on his feet and says they're very comfy. All in all, we're very pleased.

I'm very pleased with this shoe. I wanted a good walking shoe that wasn't too heavy and looked good. It fit well and is very comfortable. I like the lacing system- the laces stay tied. The shoe is supportive and provides a good grip on various surfaces including dirt trails. I also liked that the toe area is protected by a durable rubber piece.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most comfortable walking shoes yet, July 20, 2010

I bought these NB 645 shoes from Amazon a few months ago, and have used them every day. I walk about 30 miles per week in them at a rapid pace. I wear 11 1/2 D shoes and my feet are pretty easily blistered from moisture or friction. These shoes have been wonderful, not a single problem and they really absorb the impact. Planning to use them later in the summer to walk the C&O canal (185 miles). Really happy with these shoes!

Liked earlier models. The width seems to run slightly narrow relative to other athletic shoes. Comfortable to wear.
