I bought my first pair of the New Balance/OTB Bushmaster Boots when I was in Afghanistan a few years ago. After that I couldn't wear any other boot. I've tried the Garmonts, Reeboks, Rockys, Bellevilles, and some others, and they just don't compare. While these boots are just a tad heavier than the Nikes and the Rockys, they offer more ankle stability and will last longer. You can take these boots to the field and they will not fall apart. However, as with these style of sneaker boots they aren't ultra durable. How long they last depends on what kind of abuse you throw at them. But you can count on these boots taking care of your feet during that time. The mesh lining makes these boots extremely breathable and quick drying. I have done multiple 12 milers in these boots paired up with the right socks without even a hotspot. Not totally sure if they're AR 670-1 compliant or not, once in a while they'll get a funny look but no one has said anything. Plus with how popular the "sneaker boots" are with everyone these days, no one should bat an eye at them. After wearing these for so long I could never go back to those heavy, bulky standard issue boots.
I wear a size 10.5wide running shoe, and I buy the same size for these and the fit is perfect.
It is really a shame New Balance/OTB got out of the boot making market, as they really hit it out of the park with these boots. I bought the last two pairs in my size when I saw them here so I can save them for tough events in the future.

Disclaimer: the only thing keeping these boots from a five star review is time. If they prove to be durable, they are an undoubtedly five star product.
I've been in the military for fourteen years (19D/68W). I've worn everything from the the old jungle and jump boots to the first edition of desert seude, through the initial sneaker style offerings from Oakely back in '04. After approximately a month of wear (daily wear, and about a week of field time), the NB Bushmaster is ranking right up there next to the Rocky S2V (which is the best boot I have worn to date). The only thing that remains to be seen is whether they possess the crazy durability of the Rockys. As far as traditional, initial issue full suede 8" boots vs. newer sneaker styles, the Bushmasters lean heavily in the sneaker direction. More so than I anticipated from the photos. Feel on the foot is very much that of a hi top sneaker, as opposed to something like the Rockys, which are quite a bit heavier on the foot. Benefits to both. I feel better equipped to kick a door wearing the SV2, but I'm much more nimble in the Bushmaster. The Bushmaster comes up right around a full inch shorter on the calf than the more traditional 8" boot styles. That, in addition to the sneaker styling, can make trouser blousing for garrison wear more of a challenge. Check your regs, know your command, etc. These are crazy comfortable with zero break in time. The bushmasters are equally suited to standing around on your feet all day, and tromping through rough terrain in the field. Nice tough reinforced toe, which is great for protecting your boots while assuming any sort of prone or kneeling position. Suede is thick, and appears to be of very good quality. Stitching all appears to be very well done, and heavy duty.Read more ›
