A New Beginning for Boyzone member, June 29, 2000
This review is from: New Beginning (Audio CD)
The first solo effort from Stephen Gately of popular UK group Boyzone is a solid piece of work. I enjoyed every track on the CD which rarely happens for me. Stand out cuts include the title track, a cover of "Bright Eyes", and "Do Without Me". The CD consists of 13 tracks. Gately had some success in the US with the song "No Matter What" which appeared on the soundtrack to the Julia Roberts movie "Notting Hill". As more people discover him I am sure he will find greater success. Gately is probably most notable for being the first boy in a boy band to come out of the closet as a gay man. His music has universal appeal.

Great CD - Great Solo Effort, September 27, 2000
This review is from: New Beginning (Audio CD)
All of the other reviews are dead on. This is a great new CD from Gately. Out of all 13 songs, there were only 2 that I didn't really care for and they weren't bad. If you like Boyzone, you'll love this even more. All of the songs are different enough to keep from sounding like the same old thing. I purchased the new CD from Ronan Keating, and I'll take Stephen's CD over it anytime. When reading the CD liner, Stephen has his hand in the writing of almost every song. It's easy to tell that his coming out was the force behind New Beginning and who wouldn't believe that a few of the other songs were definitely inspired by his significant other Eloy. I can't wait for his next effort and the next Boyzone release.

Definitely one to buy!, July 7, 2000
This review is from: New Beginning (Audio CD)
Finally an entire album of just Stephen! Every song on the album is great. It's everything we'd expect from Steo. The more you listen to it, the harder it is to turn it off. A refreshing change from the music on American radio and MTV. If only the rest of America knew what a great talent Stephen is. This album is a wonderful showcase of a great voice. The songs are a good combination of upbeat "sing-in-your-car-at-the-top-of-your-lungs" tunes to the beautiful ballads Boyzone has provided us over and over. This is definitely a CD for everyone to own. If you know Steo, you already own it. If you don't know Steo, buy this album. You won't regret it. And, yes Steo, I Believe!
