5.0 out of 5 stars Sisters with Voices that can blow!
Just to get this started SWV is that girl group known for the hit single "Weak" back in 93'. They hit it big with their debut effort "It's About Time", which is a very descent album, but words can't express what I feel for this CD. "A New Beggining" is the groups sophmore album and it is all but pleasing! I mean every single song on the album...

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice follow up
Not as good as their first LP "It's About Time," but has its moments -- "You're The One," "On & On," and "Fine Time". This CD is the most forgettable one out of the their three album trilogy.

Just to get this started SWV is that girl group known for the hit single "Weak" back in 93'. They hit it big with their debut effort "It's About Time", which is a very descent album, but words can't express what I feel for this CD. "A New Beggining" is the groups sophmore album and it is all but pleasing! I mean every single song on the album is playable, no fillers here. SWV was never given the props they needed, Coko can blow her but off and so can the other two girls(LeLee & Jaj). Cokos voice is so sweet and powerful, she could outsing any of the new leads in any girl group and I can say that because I own TLC,Xscape, and Destinys Child albums. Every song on the album fits them to a tee with producers like the "All Stars", Herb Middleton, Brian A. Morgan, Daryl Simmons, and "The Neptunes". I didn't even know Pharrell and Chad were producing back in 96' but check the credits, they are listed. Here's an over view of each song so read on.

1.) Intro- A nice little inro to start the album off, lets you know Cokos voice is still in full effect.
2.) Your the one- The first single off the album, it got alot of air play and is a great up-beat track. 9/10
3.)Whatcha need- It's a good R&B song but nothing really new, shes just talking about what she can give her wanna be man. 8/10
4.) On & On- Another up-tempo song, they are really having a good time on this one. Very catchy and fun-9/10
5.) It's all about you- The last up-tempo song on this half of the album. Taj sings lead on this one and does a nice job on. This song had to grow on me after a couple of spins but a very nice song-8/10
6.) Use your Heart- This is my second fav. song on the album. The beat is so chilling and smooth, and so is Cokos voice. The Neptunes produced this track and did a good job doing it.(Was also released as a single)-10/10
7.) Where is the love(Interlude)- This interlude is soooo good I wish it was an actuall song. Their voices blend so well together.

8.)Fine Time- This is classic SWV at their best. They sing about being led on in a relationship and everyone can relate to that. 10/10
9.)Love is so Amazin- Another ballad that show cases Cokos voice, a very nice slow song and it does it's justice the whole way through. 10/10
10.) Use your heart(Interlude)- This reminds me of a quiet storm, SWV sings the Chorus of the song very slow. Luv it!
11.) You are my love- Darryl simmons produced this one so you know this is a good love song. Nice melody and chorus. 10/10
12.) Im so in love- This is a mid tempo song and Coko tears the end of this song up. Nice lustful song-9/10
13.) When this feeling- The Neptunes show up again on this one and gives SWV a whole new sound. It's Mid-tempo, another great song-9/10
14.) What's it gonna be- My favorite song on the album. This is classic SWV again, the feel of this song is very sad because it's talking about leaving a straind realtionship. 10/10
15.) That's what I'm Here for- The song is self explanitory, love the background vocals also.9/10
16.) Don't Waste Your Time- Not the best song on the cd but it sounds pretty good. LeLee gets lead finally on this song-8/10
17.) Soul intact( Outro)- Excellent way to end the album (Unity is what we need).

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Of The 3!, June 6, 2004

I know some people may find it hard to believe, but SWV only released 3 albums in their all too brief time in the spotlight. Those 3 albums are " It's about Time(First), New Beginning (second and the one you are reviewing now), and Release some Tension (Third). I have all 3 and can discuss each one , but since this is a review for their second album I will keep my comments confined to this one. To me SWV was (and to me still is) one of the most soulful and innovative R&B female groups to come out in a long time. Now some may be saying right now what about TLC? EnVouge? Xscape? Destiny's Child? I'm sorry, the aformentioned are all talented, but they cannot hold a candle to these sistas. Now to the album. If you only had a choice to get one SWV album this is the one to buy. The first one was good but here it's clear they have matured on this one. You can tell from the content and subject matter of the album. They also sound more confident on this album than the first. Production is also tight on this album with the Neptunes (Yes the Neptunes!) Producing 2 tracks, Erick Sermon Producing 1 and the remaining bulk by Allen "Allstar" Gordon who does a superb job.Even though this album is playable from beginning to end without skipping here are some of my favorites.
Standout Tracks:
You're the One
On & On
Use your Heart
Love is so Amazin'
You are my Love
When this Feeling

So don't hesitate, pick this up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great followup cd, March 10, 2003

I love SWV. It's a shame they broke up, but they have some of the most amazing voices i've ever head, especially Koko. This cd is a great followup to their stunning debut and is almost a tie with the first one for amazing tracks. I like the first cd just a tiny bit better. The thing i like about this cd the most is that all three girls get time on the mike and we get to hear not just Koko's voice dominating the tracks. I love the gospel harmonies of the opening track "The New Beginning". The ballads are all beautiful and some of them are really heartfelt and others are heartbreaking. I thought the song "On And On" was a better dance track than "You're The One For Me", and should have been a single. This cd is a pure class act all the way through, and if you bought the first cd you need to rush out and get this one. It's equally as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars "This is some of their best work", January 4, 2002

This is a great CD I went to buy it as soon as it came out, and I loved it. I still listen to it all of the time. I thought that it was great to hear some of the other ladies sing on this album altough CoCo has a nice voice the other ladies have nice strong voices also. The catchy tune "It's really all about you", "Use your heart" and many other there was not a bad moment on this cd. I though that LeLe and Taj did a excellent job on their leads and they deserve a hand!!! I wish that they would get back togeather so that we can hear some real r&b music from a real female r&b group, but if they have to get new members to put the group back togeather like Destiny's Child and loose some of their Chemistry I would rather just listen to their old tunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars SWV's best works, April 30, 2002
This review is from: New Beginning (Audio CD)
Six Million sold and 5 years later, SWV (Sisters With Voices)are back with their sophomore effort - New Beginning. Clearly showcasing the trios peerless vocal harmonies and ability to hold their own spot light, all three ladies handle lead this time round, they sing with intimacy and reassure each song with rich, soulful vocals. A smart blend of jazz, hip hop and pop lased with r&b simply makes New Beginning a masterpiece. Filled with now classics hits like "Use your heart" and the hightly successful "Youre the one", RCA divas Lelee,Coko & Taj will truely funk you up. SWV get straight into it beating out smooth R&B grooves like "On & on" and "Im watcha need" and the dancefloor hit "Its all about you" lets Taj do justice before the soul drenched "Where is the love", which makes way for Coko's vocals that are so overwhelming, youll get butterflys in your stomach. Dreamy tracks like "You are my love" and "Im so in love" will make you fall in love. Inspiring cuts like "When this feeling" and the outstanding ballad "Love is so amazing" is where the spotlight falls strongly. The album is wrapped up with the classy "Thats what Im here for" featuring Ish Butterfly of rap group Digable Planets for all you die hard rap fans before Lelee's debut on "Dont waste your time". If your looking for strong vocals and tight harmonies - this is definitely the album for you.

"New Beginning" is a fantastic follow up to SWV's debut album. There are so many standout tracks on this album and the harmonies are amazing. Great effort!! Just makes me miss SWV all that much more. They are sorely missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great second effort., May 24, 2007
This review is from: New Beginning (Audio CD)
SWV really goes all out on this one. If you listen carefully their New Jack Swing is still there, just modernized for the year of 1996. The beats are great, the lyrics are cool and the singing, as always, sensational. This album features a great song, Use Your Heart, which makes you feel kind of dreamy. Don't take my word for it though, listen for yourself. Great album and I highly recommend it.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: New Beginning (Audio CD)
I had this CD years ago casue these girls can really sing and but really, this album is nothing special after Use Your Heart though I had the first part of the album on heavy rotation back in the day. Same story with the Release Some Tension album. I would just get a greatest hits from them because all their best singles are on those and these girls have great singing skills.
