Book Description

In 1882, Brandon, Manitoba becomes a city with the arrival of the railroad and the beginning of the greatest mass emigration West in Canadian history.

Sam – self-made, wealthy and ruthless, is an influential business owner. Sara – widowed, alone and pregnant, is hiding from the world, riddled with guilt over previous pregnancies which her babies hadn’t survived.

That fall, through extraordinary circumstances, the two meet. Sam, worldly and experienced, is disconcerted to find that he is passionately drawn to Sara and cannot get her out of his mind. He seeks her out and begs her to let him into her life. Gently and patiently, he helps her discover the kind of tenderness and pleasure she had never experienced. She returns his love, and together, they find that life can give the happiness they had thought unattainable. Their journey takes them from the snowbound prairies of Western Canada to the modern-day bustle of Montreal and Philadelphia as they seek to find an answer to the mystery that could threaten their future happiness.

Follow Sam and Sara along their journey at a time when so many things were new to the couple and to the world ... a time of new beginnings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing! February 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Having read historical romances for years, seldom I am left speechless and so amazed. I feel for the first time that any words I write to describe this story would be inadequate. First, the storyline is new, historic and deeply interesting. This author is a researcher of immense talent. This is a book that pulls you in, puts you there, really there, so as to feel you are there in this time with these characters. I never knew so much can be known about Canadian history and discovered how it not only paralleled American history, but was and is, intricately interwoven with it. No wonder Americans have a special relationship with Canadians. While I have read many interesting books about the American pioneers and the American industrial revolution, not until this book did I realize Canada and its people were experiencing as much or even more in their country. I will try to patiently await the printing of the next book in this series and look forward to many more stories by this writer. I highly recommend this book. Now that I have read it I feel my life has been somehow enriched by the experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars New beginnings is riveting. May 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is terrific. It captured my attention from the very first words and kept it throughout the book. It is a story of the role of true love in a person's redemption. The main male character is a person who thinks only of himself. Success to him was get all you can anyway you are able. If he had to break people or tread on them so be it. The main female character is an abused disheartened woman who-because of a rare blood disease- lost five babies to death. Her husband became distraught and began taking his frustrations out on her. When the two main characters meet it is under less than good circumstances (someone tried to kill him) she wound up saving his life. His life began to change and people started noticing. He wanted to be with her for she had changed his whole life. He found new meaning for his life. Instead of being all about money he began seeing how he could help others having financial issues. She gradually began to trust and love him as he helped her deal with the abuse she had suffered. The story is one that shows money can not buy happiness or love. I look forward to reading other books by this author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very highly recommended. May 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a powerful story. I was transported back to the 1800s. I enjoyed learning about Canadian history and the way things were during that time period. Most of all I loved the romance between Sam and Sara. The love story was very well developed. I like the message in this book because is about second chances. These two people who have been through a lot needed to meet each other. It was good to see how falling in love changed Sam for the better. I like the fact that the author was able to write about the romance without being graphic. Very highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Canadian Romance February 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really enjoyed the quaint and sensual romance by Doreen Winona Logeot. The story was about the expansion of Canada during the 1880's and two special people. Sam who was abandoned as a child by his mother, grew up hardened by society. He used his wits to struggle and took whatever he wanted. He didn't care about others just himself and his wealth. While out riding, he was shot and found that if he didn't get help, he would die. Sam was saved by a woman who took him in her home and doctored him up. Her names is Sara and she is very pregnant. She is a widow who lives alone at her homestead. Sara knows about the wounded man and isn't afraid. Sam tells the woman he won't hurt her and sees a lonely soul like his. You will want to read this thrilling romance that will take you places and hope for a happy ever after.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for a romance
I thought this was very good for what it is. I don't have the knowledge to verify everything, but it felt like a well researched and realistic historical portrayal.

More About the Author

Doreen Winona Logeot is the author of the "New Beginnings Novel Series". She was raised on a mixed farm in southwest Manitoba. After living in and near Montreal and Ottawa, Doreen returned to the prairies where she met her future husband. Married for over thirty years, Doreen and her husband live on the cattle farm in southern Manitoba where they raised four sons, all of whom are grown and experiencing life. She is thrilled to have a grandson who is still a toddler. Doreen was a stay at home mom, but as the boys grew she took a part-time job at a waste transfer site. Because this job offered her some free time, especially in the winter, she took a pen in hand and started writing again, a hobby she enjoyed in her earlier years.

Doreen in currently working on the fourth novel in the "New Beginnings Series" set mainly in south-west Manitoba, Canada. She does extensive research, bringing real people into the novels along with historical happenings and situations. She looks forward to completing several more novels in the series. Doreen prefers to call her series 'life stories' rather than 'love stories' and will continue relating tales staring the main characters of Sam and Sara and their family and friends.

Both on the farm and touring, Doreen enjoys spending time with her husband. They love the company of their dogs, Eddie and Wrecks and cats, Flower and Menchi. Doreen has a great love of birds and enjoys her cockatiels, love birds, budgies, finches and doves which spend the summer in a large outdoor aviary.

Doreen's personal belief is "if life gives you 'crap' make fertilizer and grow from it." She is a person of strong faith but truly believes the world is more exciting because of all the diversity.
