Product Description

Time and distance – perhaps the two greatest trials a relationship must withstand for love to be proven true.

Time and distance is what Keigo has to conquer, when – at a very young age – he gets separated from best bud Chihiro, due to his family’s moving overseas. As the years go by, his separation from his friend becomes so unbearable that it forces Keigo to become a withdrawn shut-in. Chihiro’s mother, after hearing the news, takes pity on the boy and offers to watch over him if he wishes to come home.

Reunited with Chihiro, Keigo unceremoniously blurts out, “I love you, Chihiro. I totally love you! Ever since the past! I’m in love with you!” With the truth out in the open, everything should all be well and good, except for two things: 1) Chihiro is creeped out because they’re both guys, and 2) he’s already in love with one of the girls at school.

Young love proves to be as bumpy as ever in this quirky romance from up-and-coming artist Kotetsuko Yamamoto.

5.0 out of 5 stars This BL on young love is sweet and heartwarming, June 15, 2008
This review is from: New Beginnings (Yaoi) (Paperback)
If you like Constellations in my palm, you will enjoy this one too. Chihiro and Keigo are childhood friends forced apart when Keigo's family move to France. While Chihiro more or less has forgotten about Keigo, Keigo has not. Keigo continues to pine for Chihiro, soon shutting himself away. Alarmed, Keigo's parents decide to send their child back to Japan. Imagine Chihiro's shock where he first laid eyes on Keigo. No longer is Keigo the fragile kid in need of his protection but Keigo is now much taller and handsome too. Does not help that Chihiro has grown into a cute boy often gropped by perverts during his train rides to school. Thereon this is one heartwarming and very sweet BL as Chihiro learns to accept Keigo's love. It is not easy for poor Keigo as Chihiro already has his eyes for a girl in his school and is shocked at the idea of same sex love. At times amusing, filled with sweet and gentle moments, this BL is very enjoyable. There are a few surprises in the plot too. And I like the mangaka's handling of same sex young love.
Not for Yaoi fans who want explict sex but definitely for those of us who appreciate a sweet and heartwarming BL with endearing characters. The artwork is lovely too.

4.0 out of 5 stars A sweet read, May 26, 2009
This review is from: New Beginnings (Yaoi) (Paperback)
The story revolves around Chihiro and Keigo, two high school students who used to be childhood friends. The story basically starts with Keigo, who has been overseas, moving back to Japan to stay with Chihiro's family (who are connected to his family through business). Keigo basically has feelings for Chihiro and the story is about how this ends up being revealed and about their relationship generally- past and present.

This may sound angsty or like any common unrequited love story but it really isn't! The tone is really light-hearted, which makes this a fun and entertaining read overall. Not a lot happens in terms of plot but the casual pace somehow makes the story feel realistic and is part of what makes this manga work so well. The characters are so well developed that I just found myself completely drawn in by the story. There isn't anything at all explicit in this- it's really shonen-ai, but if you don't mind that, it's definitely worth picking this up.

I really love Kotetsuko Yamamoto's work. Her stories and characters always have a lot of depth and her work is just really engaging and sweet. Her artwork is also beautiful. If you haven't come across her work before I definitely recommend it!

If you're looking for something sweet, engaging and a little bit different, pick this up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Short but very sweet!, June 2, 2011

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: New Beginnings (Yaoi Manga) (Kindle Edition)
I purchased this for the kindle but read it on my computer. The story is sweet, with very interesting characters. The story line is also much more realistic then most yaoi, which takes place in either other worlds or has almost impossible plot devices. Pro: the art work is simple but lovely, cute and engaging characters, as I stated realistic and plausible story line. Cons: Its very short, even for the price which alright considering the paperback price, also the images are rather small so I am not sure how it reads on the kindle, I was able to adjust the screen to magnify the Manga bigger on my PC. I read this in under two hours, and left me with the feeling that I wish the author had given us more time with the characters. They are lovable. All in all enjoyable read!
