The NLT’s scholarship and clarity breathe life into even the most difficult-to-understand Bible passages—but even more powerful are stories of how people’s lives are changing as the words speak directly to their hearts. More About the Author

Who Is Greg Laurie?

Greg Laurie is the senior pastor of Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside, California. He began his pastoral ministry at the age of 19 by leading a Bible study of 30 people.

Since then, God has transformed that small group into a church of some 15,000 people. Today, Harvest is one of the largest churches in America, and consistently ranks among the most influential churches in the country.

In 1990, Laurie began holding large-scale public evangelistic events called Harvest Crusades. Since that time, more than 4,219,000 people have attended Harvest Crusades events around the United States, and in Australia and New Zealand. More importantly, more than 350,300 people have registered professions of faith through these outreaches.

Laurie is the featured speaker of the nationally-syndicated radio program, A New Beginning, which is broadcast on more than 500 radio outlets around the world. A New Beginning is also one of the most popular Christian podcast downloads on Apple's iTunes Store.

Laurie was also a guest on CNN's Larry King Live in August of 2005, and he has appeared on many other television news programs. Along with his work at Harvest Ministries, Laurie serves on the board of directors of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan's Purse, among others. He holds honorary doctorates from Biola University and Azusa Pacific University.

In addition to speaking and assisting other ministries, Laurie has authored over 65 books including Hope for Hurting Hearts, For Every Season, The Greatest Stories Ever Told, Signs Of The Times, and God's Design for Christian Dating,What every Christian needs to know, to name just a few. His books have been translated into many languages, including Korean, Latvian, Portuguese, German, and Spanish.

His autobiography, Lost Boy, was released by Regal Books, is one of the best selling Christian biographies in recent times. The accompanying documentary film, Lost Boy: The Next Chapter, has won a number of awards at film festivals around the world.

He has written study notes for two Bibles in the New Living Translation: the New Believer's Bible and The Seeker's Bible. He was also the editor for the recently-released Start! Bible in the New King James Version, published by Thomas Nelson.

I purchased this Bible because a family member of mine in prison got one through the Christian fellowship at San Quentin. He was very impressed with the reading tracks and notes by Pastor Greg Laurie. As I am a member of Calvary Chapel and a new believer myself, I got one of my own. It's easy to understand, easy to read, the reading tracks are simple and informative and this Bible has answered so many of my questions. I would recommend this Bible to any new believer or anyone who wants an easy to understand translation with excellent study guides.

As a pastor, people often ask me which Bible they should buy. With all of the translations available, along with special teen Bibles, Women's Bibles, Men's Bibles, Recovery Bibles, etc., it can be a bewildering choice. The New Believer's NLT is an excellent Bible for new believers, and for anyone who isn't familiar with the Bible and wants to get the most out of reading it.

One mistake that many new believers make is to try reading the Bible "cover to cover" - in other words, starting at Genesis and trying to read straight through to Revelation. That's a worthy goal, but unless you're already familiar with the many types of literature in the Bible, and you know how the 66 books fit together (Hint: They are not chronological), you are likely to get bogged down about the time you reach Leviticus, and may simply give up. Likewise, many new believers are told that they should begin by reading the Gospel of John. This is good advice, because John gives a great introduction to Jesus. But then what? A third mistake many folks make is to go to their closet and pick up a Bible that someone gave them when they were kids, probably a King James Translation or the Revised Standard Version. These were great translations in their time, but the English language has changed a LOT in the last 400 years. That's why we need new translations from the ancient languages into modern English, so that you can understand it!

The New Believer's NLT has several great things going for it:

1) It is a great, easy to read translation of the Bible from the original languages. The people who translated the NLT used the most reliable ancient documents in Hebrew (Old Testament) and Greek (New Testament) when making this translation.

Not only do I love the New Living Translation, but the way this bible is laid out, with basic Christian beliefs on various subjects very clearly spelled out (with references to the corresponding passages included), makes it a wonderful resource for new (and not-so-new) Christians. Explains salvation, heaven & hell, angels & demons, marriage & divorce, prayer, etc based on Biblical teachings. I would recommend it to anyone. Praise God!

I hightly recommend this book to any believer...new or not! It is a great way to understand the word of God but the book also "walks" you through each step of how, why, when, etc. I am sending this book to a friend who is teaching a new believers class.

A friend introduced me to this Bible and I became a Born Again Christian. I bought one and gave it to my brother in hopes that he too, shall be saved. It makes reading the Bible so much easier to understand.
