Really a great way to understand the bible!,
By A Customer
This review is from: New Believer's Bible: First Steps for New Christians (New Living Translation) (Hardcover)
I hightly recommend this book to any believer...new or not! It is a great way to understand the word of God but the book also "walks" you through each step of how, why, when, etc. I am sending this book to a friend who is teaching a new believers class.

This review is from: New Believer's Bible: First Steps for New Christians (New Living Translation) (Hardcover)
Not only do I love the New Living Translation, but the way this bible is laid out, with basic Christian beliefs on various subjects very clearly spelled out (with references to the corresponding passages included), makes it a wonderful resource for new (and not-so-new) Christians. Explains salvation, heaven & hell, angels & demons, marriage & divorce, prayer, etc based on Biblical teachings. I would recommend it to anyone. Praise God!

The publishers have dramatically changed the New Believer's Bible format from this earlier version, and it simply does not measure up. The original format is far easier to follow, so when my wife and I want to give an entry-level study Bible to someone, we search out a used "orignial" version for a gift.

Bleak scenario??,
By A Customer
This review is from: New Believer's Bible: First Steps for New Christians (New Living Translation) (Hardcover)
Consider the following quote from a note (page 878) to the parable of the rich man and Lazarus:"Jesus gave us a rare glimpse of life in hell in this parable...if you have ever been badly burned, then you have an idea of the torment that awaits those who will spend eternity in hell. Add to that darkness and isolation, and you have an incredibly bleak scenario." The guidance notes, far from being scholarly illuminations of various opinions, are completely weighed down by Greg Laurie's revival tent theology, and should by no means be taken as THE universal interpretation. Not so bad as a lot of stuff in this vein, but be sure to compare and contrast a few more scholarly study bibles, such as the Harper_Collins, before buying it hook line and sinker.
