In a nutshell this book is about building your own network of business contacts. If you just woke up from a ten-year nap, this book will be quite valuable. If you already have a Facebook page, use Instagram, Google+ or any other social network tools to connect you may be bored. The advice given for using online social media is like a laundry list, ideas and advice, but nothing you can't learn by actually using your own account. There are no "wow" moments here. His advice for Blogs and SEO is lacking, although he has been blogging for years, mostly about his business network gatherings and now this book. At no time does he mention that your blog should be the center of your online universe. Every article, every bit of social media connection should point to your blog, where new visitors should be introduced to the real you - the valuable product that you have and sell (I got that from a 99-cent book on the keys to blogging success, but I agree wholeheartedly).

As for the bulk of the book, it's about attending business network groups and doing PR work, connecting, offering insight and help, and selling yourself. If you attend even one, you can meet and greet dozens of people and find out about their services, their products, and hand out your business cards and arrange for coffee together if you meet important contacts. You might not need a $10 Kindle book to do that. Sorry, based on the high price, lack of new information, and the fact that nearly 30% of the book is the index and the first chapter about what the author is going to discuss in the book, I have to rate this as a two-star read for all but networking beginners.

I was excited to learn that Dave - one of the most well-networked people in Nashville - was publishing a book. I've only been doing major business networking for a year or so now, and the techniques and topics in Dave's book have really helped me push my own comfort zones and get out there and meet people, and because of it I have been presented with an incredible amount of opportunities I probably wouldn't have been brave enough to go after without reading this book first. NBN offers real-world, relevant advice for networking, not only in person, but in the online world as well. Topics covered include real world, practical advice on social networking, building your own websites, hosting your own networking events, and building professional relationships.

A high point of this book was the chapter on hosting your own events - as the director of a new project NashvilleGeekLife.com (which focuses on event coverage and community networking for local geek culture), I was feeling a bit overwhelmed on how to go about creating events for the sheer purpose of encouraging people to come out and network with each other, and since reading this book I have not only hosted my own successful events, but have easily encouraged others to, as well.

A++ book for anyone who is looking to get better at networking and building relationships with people, companies and other organizations.

This is a really really good book on Networking in the digital/social media age we live in.
Dave does an excellent job of going through the plethora of social media platforms from LinkedIn, to Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, everything and relating back to the ultimate goal of really connecting with people and eventually meeting them in person. He constantly reminds the reader that networking’s ultimate goal is to meet people face to face and build real relationships. My favorite line of the book is “Networking is work!”. True that! Going to Meetup’s and trying to connect with people on social media is not a frivolous activity, but you have to do it intentionally and in the right way. That is where this book really helped me. I understand now that you do not have to be on every social media platform and they all have different and sometimes overlapping audiences. With that insight, the social media world does not seem so daunting and I can identify the 3-4 platforms that I think will work best for my purposes.

This is also not exclusively about social media. Dave covers business cards and designs and when to use them, hosting live events, and even a little section on networking for introverts. All in all, it is a great book for anyone looking to network and build relationships or just make new friends. It is good for college students, working professionals, business builders or even stay at home parents. Love this book.

The days when networking meant once a week rubber chicken lunches with Rotary club are long gone, and this book is your road map to the wide new world. Yes, networking is about social media and all that entails, but there are thousands of books about that. The genius of Dave Delaney is combining the instant, all encompassing power of social media with the irreplaceable appeal of IN REAL LIFE NETWORKING - Cocktail hours, geek breakfasts, UnConferences. This book shows you how to find the right IRL events and maximize their benefits with pre-game research and post game followup. Even better, if you can't find just the right event, you'll learn how to start your own!
