I am simply stunned and amazed with this product. In fact I'd rate it a 10 if I could. As another reviewer stated, good bone health is nothing to skimp on and neither is a good well-made supplement. I've tried other calcium supplements/brands and nothing compares to these and here's why:

For years I've suffered with hip pain and it had gotten to the point where I was desperate to get rid of it and ask the doc for a pain killer. I suffered a horseback riding accident when younger and couldn't walk for nearly a month. After three children and some weight gain due to a doc misdiagnosis of a blood test for hypothyroidism, my hips were killing me and I was getting only 4-5 hours of sleep a night. Since I am now entering menopause I thought it prudent to try a different calcium supplement after stumbling upon an article about silica being necessary for life (research shows that a dose of 400-500 mg. of daily silica increased bone mass by an average of 30% in only 4 weeks) and how it greatly improves the bodily uptake of calcium and other nutrients. Strontium was also mentioned in association with the article as being beneficial to bone strength. So began the search for a calcium supplement with silica and this is what I found. Granted, it is expensive, but so are bone fractures and the inability to walk. After only 2 days of taking this my hip pain was gone! Being skeptical, I quit taking it for 3 days and by the second day my hip pain was coming back, so back to taking it I went and the pain disappeared again. It was a totally unexpected benefit of taking this supplement. I don't know for sure which ingredient is responsible for taking away the hip pain, but I am grateful! I plan to repeat this little experiment in a month to see if the pain comes back and will update this review then. It will also be interesting to see what effect, if any, it will have on my hereditary osteoarthritis of the hands.

This is a good product, but it is priced much higher than other calcium tablets. There are two main forms of calcium supplements. Calcium carbonate, the basis of chewable antacids as well as tablets, must be taken with food. Calcium citrate is acidic and thus must be taken on an empty stomach. I usually take calcium citrate tablets because they fit my routine. New Chapter Bone Strength tablets use algae-sourced calcium and must be taken with food. I have not read any claims supported by research that indicate that algae-based calcium sources are superior to other forms. Calcium supplements made from oyster shells should be avoided because of heavy metals contamination (ocean pollution), but those do not seem to be sold any more. There is no reason to be wary of limestone as a calcium source, and the fact that the marketing of New Chapter Bone Strength relies on this approach implies that the company wants to create demand for the product by inventing concerns where none need exist.

As other reviewers have noted, New Chapter Bone Strength Take Care tablets include other vitamins and minerals to boost calcium absorption and retention. All calcium tablets seem to add Vitamin D, but these contain Vitamin K as well. I see no need to change to this product after trying it. Note that there are 60 tablets, but this is a three-times-a-day supplement to get 69% of your calcium daily value, so the bottle will last only 20 days if used as directed.

Pros: Absorption and retention qualities enhanced by other ingredients; small and slender easy-to-swallow tablet.
Cons: High price, packaging encourages illogical concern about limestone as calcium source.
Depends on your preference: This is the form that must be taken with a meal.

Too early to tell how well this will work long term. But so far, so good. The ingredients are organic and pure. The dosing is simple, two tabs with a meal daily. There have been no stomach or intestinal issues. The product is gluten and filler free, which is a huge plus.

For Mother's Day I bought my mom a bottle of New Chapter's Bone Strength. At a local vitamin shop, I was describing my mom's issues with painful calcium build up on her knuckles to one of the employees. When I asked her what supplement she should try both she, and another employee that had overheard the question, both replied in unison, "New Chapter Bone Strength!" Now mind you my mom has been taking all sorts of different calcium supplements for many years. Her problem was that she was not absorbing them. Within a month the pain was significantly less...within 2 months she had absolutely no pain and has had none since. Her nails are stronger than ever in her life (and almost ridiculously long, ha ha). In addition, her pain in the long bones of her arms has completely vanished. Our entire family including Cooper, my big-boned yellow lab, are all on this amazing supplement.

Since I acquired these tablets for my wife, I asked her to write the review, which follows:

It was encouraging to see my fingernails grow quickly and my cuticles stop cracking once I began taking New Chapter Bone Strength Calcium. I had been diagnosed with Osteopenia and knew that I didn't want to take Bisphosphonates due to side effects associated with jaw bone damage. So finding a good calcium supplement was important to me.

My follow-up DEXA scan showed that my bone density had improved and this was decidedly a real plus for me. I also appreciated the fact that the calcium tablets were much smaller than typical "horse pill" sized calcium supplements. I do take calcium with D-3 supplementation as well to increase the absorption of my calcium supplement. One other advantage of New Chapter Bone Strength Calcium tablets is that unlike Calcium Chewables, the New Chapter Bone Strength Calcium tablets don't have any added calories!

I get frequent charlie horses, which can either be caused by a deficiency of calcium or potassium. I've tried many brands of both supplements, but nothing seemed to help. Until I tried the New Chapture Bone Strength Take Care. It will ease a charlie horse within 30 minutes, and daily use helps avoid them altogether.

I was a little worried about taking these because they have special instructions for taking them (to help avoid stomach upset) -- and the other New Chapter supplements I took definitely caused major tummy problems. Happily, Bone Strength Take Care did not cause ANY stomach discomfort for me. Another plus is that the capsules were easy to swallow. This is important to me, because I usually have trouble swallowing large pills/capsules.

Because of the benefits to me, I will definitely use New Chapter Bone Strength Take Care on a regular basis.

I never really thought about that until I read the label on the Bone Strength Take Care Calcium Supplements. These caplets are made of whole food algae instead, gathered from along the coast of South America.

Still, taking 3 caplets a day, the whole foods way of getting my daily calcium can be pretty expensive. I can get my calcium instead by drinking 3 glasses of skim milk for a much cheaper cost.

I also wouldn't remember to take the caplets as directed; although you CAN take all 3 with a large meal, the manufacturer of this product prefers, for best results, that you take 1 caplet with lunch and 2 with dinner. I doubt if I would remember to take the remaining 2 at dinnertime.

These tablets are least have an adequate amount of Vitamin D3, which is sorely lacking in our bodies now due to the use of sunscreen and not spending as much time in the sun as we used to do. So for now, while taking these calcium supplements I will curtail my extra Vitamin D3 I normally take.

I guess if you are into organic whole foods, are lactose-intolerant, and the thought of swallowing limestone is appalling, the Take Care Calcium would certainly fit the bill for you.

At least I didn't burp these for hours after taking them, like I do with a lot of vitamins and minerals. But I think I will stick with just drinking my milk after I'm finished with this bottle.

Although I have only been using this product for a couple of weeks, I feel it is already working. My knees don't creak as much.

We all know that calcium supplements are one of the keys to bone strength in later life, but it's not easy to find a supplementary source of calcium that's palatable and easy to digest. Another problem is that only some of the calcium is absorbed, and we can improve the absorption rate by taking magnesium, vitamin K and vitamin D along with the calcium.

New Chapter is known for high-quality vitamins and supplements, and their New Chapter - Bone Strength Take Care, 60 tablets product follows that mission. This product's calcium source is algae "from the pristine shores of a protected national reserve park in South America." Absorption is aided by the vitamins and minerals in the formulation. The other calcium supplement on my shelf comes from limestone and as New Chapter suggests on its website, why should I eat rocks?

The pills are easy to swallow and did not upset my stomach. The recommended dosage is three pills a day with meals, split into two doses. This is a somewhat arduous regimen but then, calcium's just never that easy to take, and this is at least as painless as most. The price is a little high for the daily dose: my bottle of 60 is a 20-day supply, breaking down to just over a dollar a day. My plan is to stick with this product for six months and then see how I feel about it. At the moment I'm finding it very satisfactory.

For those who need to know, I notice that BONE STRENGH TAKE CARE is gluten-free, as well as vegetarian.

I am a former user or Caltrate. I've recently switched to an online store brand called Now-Cal because of a BOGO offer. Compared to the brands I've previously taken, New Chapter - Bone Strength Take Care is superior and worth the price.

The pills are shaped and sized similar to Motrin but by no means are they small. What I do like is that they are not chalky. While calcium supplements don't usually upset my stomach, the chalky varieties get stuck in my through and have made me sick from gagging. New Chapter-Bone Strength does not do this.

I realize this product is pricy but believe it gives the consumer more bang for the buck because it does have other supplements listed on the nutritional label and it is made out of whole food sources.

I would recommend this and I will be purchasing this again in the future. Bone health is no area to skimp on!!
