The one star is not for the book, but for Amazon's handling of this title. What's going on with this title? It says it's out on may 31 but nothing is posted. No descirption about the book either. Can someone at Amazon post some information so we know what's going on with this title (or non-title)?

I was looking forward to a new clancy book, and now nothing. Amazon seems to be slipping up more and more lately. We order books based on Amazon info, and suddenly the book isnt there anymore,or they say it is not available to them,etc. Also, the date trhe book is out in stores and the delay in the book getting to me is causing me more and more to cancel previous orders. Why wait for weeks after the stores have it, when you can buy it at the store at a discount as well?/

I also was confused by the handling of this book, being a rather large Clancy fan. It was coming, it was coming, it wasn't coming, it was coming, it vanished.

However, I managed to pick up a copy of an odd, rather short novel by Clancy titled "So They Elected A Jewish President". I haven't yet read it, but it appears to be the one this whole flap was about. I'm tempted to just stash it somewhere in case its rarity makes it somewhat valuable in the future.

If this is Tom Clancy's latest book I was not aware it even existed. What happened to it? Gene Swanson

Well, its after the 31st and still no book.

Interesting that the publisher has nothing on their site either.

I guess this is Clancy's way of judging if there will be interest in a book before writing one.

If his next book as as bad as the last few fiction books, he should just not bother. Don't get me wrong, everything up to Bear and Dragon were great.

Red Rabbit, there was no suspense. Everything just worked out fine.

and the last one... Lets see, lets start with those pardons. How does a president write blank pardons in advance of a crime. Aren't they only valid if the crime happened before he left office? I thought Clancy had a "convenent" with his readers.

I am somewhat gratified to see that I am not the only one who feels frustration at the slippage of the May 31, 2006 release date. I even asked today in a Borders book store to see if they had the new book or even if they had any ideas of when it would be released. No information at all from Borders. Which certainly makes me wonder if Amazon pulled the release date out of their fertile imagination. But I do find it puzzling that when I checked in early April the release date was May 25, 2006.

Then sometime in May it was changed to May 31, 2006. So someone was reviewing the release date.

I would agree on the quality or lack there of in the last two Clancy novels. I bought Red Rabbit at Costco, glad I did not spend any money to buy Teeth of the Tiger (read it from the library). If the next novel is as long or close to the length of Bear and the Dragon, I expect I'll probably buy it, but a short novel like the last two, I will probably pass on.

Unfortunately this is not the first time that Amazon has offered Clancy's 'next book' only to not have it show up as promised. I dont know if Tom has stopped writing or if Amazon just thinks something is coming and trying to drum up business. The last time, about a year ago, it was the same old story - due on whatever date, not delivered and pushed back until ultimately it was never to be seen. From the way this one is going it looks like just another of the same old thing. This is why I no longer order anything that is not available today from Amazon.

Regarding Clancy's next book of fiction, should there be one written by him, I will wait for the reviews before: buying new, used or borrowing to read. The last book, "Teeth of the Tiger", in my opinion, was his worse and not worth reading. As part of a loyal fan base, I felt used. If the next one isn't better, I won't buy it.
