In my opinion it can be regarded as the best dictionary for students and for those who prefer to learn alone. Also it may be sufficient for people engaged in Latin translations. The book contains all the needed declenesions and conjugations tables etc. Nicely printed with reasonable font size, all for a reasonable price that any student may efford.

I must first admit that I don't even remember originally purchasing this text or how much I paid. It was certainly during my early high school years, and--to be fair--I also don't remember scrawling my last name in marker on all three sides (that is, not including the spine). Anyway, I am now a sophomore in college, and, after relearning Latin during my freshman year, I enrolled in Intermediate Latin Prose for this fall term. When I received the syllabus, there was a recommended dictionary listed with other required texts. With my fingers crossed I began to search for the dictionary I knew was tucked away somewhere in the basement of my mother's house. Much to my delight, I was able to find the dictionary, and it even happened to be the same one that was listed on the syllabus!

As everyone who has studied classics knows, "New" is quite a flexible adjective and can be creatively employed in the title of almost any classical reference text. The New College Latin and English Dictionary, while it is not able to escape this branding, is certainly a better candidate than some other "new" texts, of which many are more than fifty years old and a handful are more than a century old. The font is rather easy on the eyes, the layout is straightforward, and the dictionary itself is comprehensive. The first thirty three pages contain a sometimes helpful grammar reference, the latin-english dictionary occupies pages 34-450, and the english-latin dictionary, pages 451-663. One notable peculiarity is that the abbreviations employed throughout the text are not listed until page 665. I admit that I do not have experience with any other similar latin-english dictionaries, but I can confidently say that I have never had any trouble with this one!

Regardless if you're a lexicologist/linguist by trade, or simply curious about the language, or you need some help with crossword puzzle solving, or you are in classes to learn - this is the finest cross comparison Latin/English dictionary out there. Go for it. Don't worry, I'm kolluj edjamifikatud, sew I no wut eye'm tawken abowt.

Used a similar product all through high school and finding an internationally based dictionary, cheap, was hard. It was in great shape and arrived in an orderly fashion and wasn't hard on the pocketbook at all. Very pleased.

In my opinion it is the best Latin dictionary for students and especially for those that prefer to study alone. I would also recommend this book for the advancing student and any one who bother himself with Latin translations. The dictionary contains a lot of tables of declensions and conjugations also about irregular verbs and much information in regard to syllabificatin and accent.
