Book Description

December 15, 1999
Today, black entrepreneurs are starting businesses in record numbers and filling the boardrooms of some of the most dynamic companies in the United States. They are builders, writers, and CEOs. They're pilots, producers, and presidents. They're businesspeople who inherited nothing from their families but a willingness to work hard and to think big.

In The New Color of Success, you'll meet more than 20 young black millionaires who are living the American Dream—and changing forever the face of business in America. Author Niki Butler Mitchell digs into the lives of these talented entrepreneurs to uncover the secrets of their success. You'll discover what their childhoods were like, the effect education had on their lives, who their role models are, and how they achieved their dreams. You'll meet extraordinary achievers such as:

• Robin Petgrave, whose $4 million flight-training school and helicopter tour service began with $300 and a telephone
• Yvette Lee Bowser, producer of the hit television comedy Living Single and head of her own highly successful production company, SisterLee Productions
• Daymond John, J. Alexander Martin, Carl Brown, and Keith Perrin, the founders of the $350 million sportswear company FUBU
• Neil Jones, the president and CEO of M-Cubed Inc., a $20 million systems-integration company
• Myra Peterson, the creator of Urbanrepublic.com, the first cybermall with high-quality products, services, and information targeted to African Americans
• And more!

The New Color of Success is a celebration of hard work, persistence, and determination in the pursuit of dreams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank You!, January 3, 2000

I am delighted to extend a warm, personal "Thank You" to Ms. Mitchell for writing such a dynamic book. I commend her and the fine business men and women that appear in her book for the outstanding contributions they make on a daily basis for improving the quality of life for many young black people. It is concerned authors like Niki that help to revitalize the true spirit of black self empowerment. Niki's examples of personal excellence plays an integral role in instilling in young people an appreciation for life, and fostering a climate of ambition and achievement amony young people. This book encourages young and old alike to become business leaders in their communities. I applaud Niki for affording our young people the greatest gift of all for the holidays--FAITH IN THEMSELVES.

5.0 out of 5 stars The New Color Of Success, April 2, 2000
This review is from: The New Color of Success: Twenty Young Black Millionaires Tell You How They're Making It (Hardcover)
AWESOME! Thank you Ms. Niki Butler Mitchell for showcasing people of color. I know they exist in my environment, but there are others in the world that are not surrounded by such images of success.

The theme throughout this book is faith, perseverance, hard work, family, helping others, not MONEY! I could not put this book down. It lead to my insomnia!

Why should you purchase this book? Parents to encourage your child; multicultural professionals to show there are a multitude of successful people of color that are not in the entertainment industry or playing supports that encounter racism; entrepenuers to refer to as a source of encouragement.

Bottomline this is not just a book for people of color, but for people who have persevered. These individuals have definitely reinforced my motto, "all you can tell me is no, but if I don't ask the answer is already N-O!"

Thanks to the individuals represented in the pages of 'The New Color Of Success' I have been encouraged to continue focusing on my passion.

So, Ms. Mitchell when are you planning on writing the next one?

Marie Curate
