I was looking for a decent small Bible dictionary that I could carry and use for a weekly men's Bible Study and for my own daily Bible reading. I ordered a couple of newer ones, and was very disappointed. I didn't expect them to be all encompassing, but I did want them to cover a reasonable variety of topics. My wife then told me that she had an old dictionary from the 70's packed away, and it happened to be the Compact Bible Dictionary. Compared to the newer dictionaries that I bought, the Compact Bible Dictionary did a good job of covering a reasonable amount of material, while keeping the book to a decent carrying size. I was able to look up words that I couldn't find in the other versions in the Compact Bible Dictionary, and find most of them. It meets my needs. I have other larger versions for things that this one might not contain, but The Compact Bible Dictionary provides me with a nice, portable version that contains a lot of material that the others did not. It contributes to my studies well. Originally published in 1967, but it covers things better than many of comparable size of more recent publication. If you want a small, but useful dictionary, look at The Compact Bible Dictionary.
