A New Concept of the Universe,
By A Customer
This review is from: A New Concept of the Universe (Paperback)
A New Concept of the Universe is very compact with ideas. This book could easily be converted to 3 books or more. One book for physics (optics), one book for chemisty and biology and one book for astronomy. It is a goldmine. I have poured over this book many times. It does take some effort to get accustomed to the language that Dr. Russell needs to use in order to explain his revolutionary model. One of Dr. Russell's core ideas is that "opposites do not attract - opposites repel". He says "like attracts like" and he explains this reasoning very thoroughly. It is very much worth the effort of study if you are interested in science. Once familiar with the language, the ideas become quite clear. It becomes easy to fit our current scientific understanding into this model and it streamlines the complexity of our current science. In my opinion, and I know I am not the only person who believes this, this book contains the science of the future and also the greatest hope for the future of our world. This contains the answer to sustainable, clean, inexpensive and inexhaustible energy. When the scientists and technologists begin to use these principles the world will have endless energy at their disposal. This includes all 3rd world countries and impoverished countries as well as the wealthy countries. Governments and environmental agencies should be investing in scientific research using this science model. It will also help astronomers and chemists immeasurably. Indirectly this book also explains global warming and our rapidly changing weather patterns, however this will not be clear to the layman without referencing Dr. Russell's other books. A good companion book to this one is Dr. Russell's "Secret of Light". Thank you for allowing me to review this wonderful book.

The author does give a complete and probably self-consistent cosmogony. He got this view, apparently, from his own mystic experiences, leading to a strong philosophy. It is not, at the start, highly mathematical. A problem is just the language used. The author claims that the only force used in creation of the universe is electricity. That's okay. We all hope that all the forces of nature (four of them in the usual view) will eventually be understood as one unified force. There seems to be no particular problem in calling the unified force electricity. It's as good a word as gravity, but "electricity," as used by the author, means something different from what the rest of the world means by it. This electric force has four poles. One pole is an inward spiraling pole that forms gravity and matter, while another pole is outward spiraling, producing radiation (at least a part of which is electricity in a more usual sense). The presence or existence of God is something that can be proven in the laboratory, and is tied up with the "light" that is magnetism. Again, this could all be true somehow, but the use of the word "magnetism" is as difficult to discern as electricity. There are two more "poles" required to produce the universe and not simply the inward spiraling vortex and the outward spiraling vortex. It could all be right. It could all make sense, but it is not explained in any way that is clear enough for me to make proper sense of it. There is a more expensive "home study course" to learn more, but is there any real hope that it is more clearly explained? It could all be true. It could be the product of a powerful mystic vision. It is difficult for a newcomer to relate it to more common ideas well enough to make sense of it. Why write a book if it isn't a clearer explanation? What do you really mean? I think that it would be too harsh to take the view that the author is simply a cynic or a charlatan. It is not too harsh to think that he might explain himself more clearly.

This review is from: A New Concept of the Universe (Paperback)
Though written in 1953 the views expressed by Walter Russell in this book are still way ahead of most of contemporary science that clings too much to reputation built on assumptions that prove themselves to be erroneous over time. Inventions that permitted to speed up processes did not result in more time for us to enjoy pleasant activities. Inventions promising to make things better did not improve a lot in view of the world's present state. We still slave to pay for energy that is exclusively made available on the grid. Our food is contaminated by GMO's, growth hormones, venomous chemicals (from detergents) etc. in an increasing measure. As is our potable water that contains fluoride and allegedly even uranium. More people starve and are ill than ever before on this planet; none of the inventions could prevent it and some of them are even part of their cause. This world has to thoroughly rethink its priorities and therefore its science. Russell already did this some 60 years ago (and had some thoughts even prior to that) as can be read in this book. An interesting and uplifting read.

The subject matter was a bit over my head, but was so interesting, I had to go forward even at times if it was at an extremely slow pace. Walter Russell was so ahead of his time. When you start to read, you would think it was written recently. He coined the phrase "NEW AGE" decades before it was a "catch phrase" Mr Russell was an artist in several medias, a skater, and scientist although he had to quit school at a very early age. He binds GOD to science which is seldom even heard of, but makes perfect sense. His ideas about helping others and positive brings about positive is remarkable. His wife Lao wrote several books as well, mostly about love, but not romance novels. His books are definitely worth reading. They will open your mind and take you way outside the box.
