5.0 out of 5 stars A Beauty (and a bargain!), January 25, 2001
This review is from: New Conversations: Monologue Dialogue Trialogue (Audio CD)
No Bill Evans fan should be without this amazing album. No jazz piano fan should be without it either.

In my opinion this is by far the best of the 3 Evans "conversations" overdubbing albums and one of his top non-trio efforts in general. The depth and range of pianistic technique and emotion is amazing. The closing Ellington composition "Reflections in D" will leave you breathless. The virtuosity of variations on "I Love My Wife" is staggering. The wistful mood of "Remembering the Rain" is pure loveliness.

And unlike parts of "Conversations with Myself" and "Further Conversations," this album is masterfully recorded and mixed, with the overdubbing of parts so fluid and natural that you are not distracted by the technique and can fully enjoy the resulting music.

Don't be scared off by the ugly cover!! This is one of the most beautiful Bill Evans records ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jazz Bach ?, August 5, 2005
This review is from: New Conversations: Monologue Dialogue Trialogue (Audio CD)
I know this album (vynil long play) since I was a teenager.

I think This album proves that Bill Evans is to Jazz what Bach was to classical music. His music is sophisticated, analytical and also very beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eloquence, Elegance,, Evans........, February 22, 2001
This review is from: New Conversations: Monologue Dialogue Trialogue (Audio CD)
I had never heard of Bill evans up until 2 years ago, it was then i heard Blue on Green by Miles Davis, i was perplexed by the piano playing on it, so since then my Evans collection has got to 18 albulms. New conversations is probably my own favourite. Song for Helen is played like it's Evans last ever song to the great producer Helen Keane. Then he slips in a more up tempo cheerfull number in Nobody else but me,probably the only uptempo song on the albulm. Then theres the beautiful rolling melodies of i love my wife. My own perssonal favourite is Remembering the rain,so elegent and emotional, it is pure piano melodies so gentle. This is a must for all those Evans fans who like his moody late night songs. This album is the greatest performed by the greatest.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE THIS RECORDING, November 19, 2008
This review is from: New Conversations (Audio CD)
Not sure why, but for some reason this CD doesn't get much respect in Bill circles. Maybe it was the copious over-dubbing, maybe it's just too upbeat and accessible, I don't know. But this is Bill at his most positive and introspective. In fact, if I had to pick I'd say this recording would be my "stranded on desert island" fav. And I have about 25 of his recordings. If you like this CD you should also check out The Bill Evans Album. Another under-rated gem, also lighter and more upbeat.

End Review:

Near the end for Bill Evans he turned in some of his most defining perfromances and this hard to find LP "New Conversations" is recorded proof of that statement. I believe that this was his finest solo outing as each track in its own right is pure masterpiece for all the ages.

There is little question that any Bill Evans recording should be in any serious jazz library of merit. Here with this, his final solo outing, he raised the bar once again, to unattainable heights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have., March 27, 2008
This review is from: New Conversations (Audio CD)
For those who know the tunes and understand Evans' approach, this CD is phenomenal.....a true must-have, beyond even "Conversations." Self-admittedly not an accomplished solo pianist, Evans believed that he worked best when playing off bass and drums. On this recording, which is three overdubs of himself accompanying himself, he provides greater accentuation of the bass and rhythm lines through the overdubbing, while still retaining the introspective lyrical nature of his well-known style. For the Bill Evans fans, I highly recommend this......I had the vinyl for years (2 copies!) before the CD was even released!
