Book Description

October 1999
Living through a divorce can be one of the most traumatic and disruptive events you'll ever experience. However, divorce can provide an opportunity to create a new life -- one that you'll find more satisfying and more rewarding.

In The New Creative Divorce, the nation's leading divorce counselors show readers how to turn their personal pain into positive growth -- how to:
-- Tell what went wrong in your marriage -- and not make the same mistakes again
-- Move past blame to focus on the positive changes you can make
-- Make sure you keep a strong relationship with your kids

The New Creative Divorce not only offers a spirited defense of divorce as being the best solution for specific problem marriages, but it also shows readers how they can make the experience as positive and creative a part of their lives as possible. It is profoundly realistic and hopeful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Divorce Is About You, Not About "What Your Ex- Did", March 4, 2006
This review is from: The New Creative Divorce: How to Create a Happier, More Rewarding Life During--And After--Your Divorce (Paperback)
So you've been dumped. That means the divorce is all his/her fault, right? Wrong! Being dumped means you've got an opportunity to grow and be happy in a new relationship with someone who actually loves you.

This is a book about getting over it!!!

Creative Divorce also gets into creating a relationship with your ex- that isn't toxic. For children, parents who can talk civilly is critical. For you, getting over the divorce is critical, too, because playing the injured victim is just too time-consuming.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not much useful information here, September 29, 2003

This review is from: The New Creative Divorce: How to Create a Happier, More Rewarding Life During--And After--Your Divorce (Paperback)
If you want to believe you and your spouse share a 50/50 split in the "blame" for your marriage breaking up, then this is the book for you. Most people are not in that situation, however. In almost 80% of all divorces, one party is dumping the other, and the dumpee is the one seeking guidance from books like this - but this book doesn't help the typical dumpee.

About the only thing I thought was worth understanding from this book is that the best way of "getting even" is living well. But is "getting even" the goal? Seems shallow to me.
