Nonetheless, the modest collectionwhich includes herbed round steak, apple-pork roast and vegetables, sweet potato-and-sausage stew, Oriental hot-and-sour soupwill satisfy and tempt some less-discriminating, meat-loving "absentee cooks" who want to put hot meals on the table with a minimum of fuss. Hallmarks of the Better Homes and Gardens Books (Henry is an in-house editor) are simple, lucid directions and helpful tipsand this volume is no exception. There is meticulous information on types of crockery cookers, their use and upkeep, and recipes are varied to accommodate different makes. Lifting vegetable-stuffed meat loaf into and out of the cooker is facilitated by foil handles, instructions provided. Cooks can use canning jars as baking molds to create brownie cakes. I have three top favorite crock pot cook books and this is one of them. This cookbook is well organized with easy to follow recipes. The dinners turn out well. Most of the meals use on hand ingredients with very few exotic requests. I am a big fan of crock pot cooking. If you are looking for a good book with lots of yummy recipes, this is one of my favorites.

This is a book filled with simple crock pot recipes that my family loves. In fact, my husband has asked me to cook Apple Pork Roast & Vegetables when we hosted his family for dinner. I make Lentil-Mushroom Soup frequently and Chicken & Sausage Gumbo is also good. If you watch your fat intake, you will need to adjust the recipes--use low fat meats, cut out the recommended oil, etc. Overall worth having in your crock pot cookbook collection.

I thought the book is very dated, and the receipes lacked flair. I would have liked a book that is more recent, with nutritional breakdowns included.
