How many ways can you stack the deck?,
By
This review is from: New Cuts for New Quilts: More Ways to Stack the Deck (Paperback)
Quilting is my passion. Like most quilters, I have many "WIP"s. That would be "works in progress." My new resolution is to find projects that look wonderful but are things I can actually finish without too much stress. This great book offers many opportunities. The author writes very clear instructions. My creativity is really on the rise after reading the book.

Fun and fast projects,

There is a large variety of projects in this book. The instructions are easy to follow. It is very fun to cut and shuffle the fabric. I took the book to my guild last retreat and a couple of us finished a quilt in about 5 hours, the results very different but still nice. With the tecnique you do not have to fuzz with matching all corners perfectly. Even doing curves end up fun... We did find some errors between the pictures and the written instructions, nothing mayor.

When I purchased this book I had no idea how often I would go back to it for new ideas on how to make a completely unique and one of a kind quilt. This is now my quick and painless, to make *gift quilt* book in my library of reference books. Although others reviewers of this book, have written stating that the not have full size pattern sheets to use to determine how to cut was a draw back, I find this as a plus and not a negative. Each project starts out with spelled out specific sizes for the squares and rectangles you will need to complete the project, and it is easy to duplicate the projects she has in this book. The wonderful thing is that is also absolutely a *piece of cake* to alter the size or shape on any given project giving the quilter absolute ease in adapting their own visions in with this cutting and re-stacking system. The instructions are very easy to read and follow, and the vast array of color combinations that the author gives throughout the projects will allow most beginners to advanced quilters a place to start. Not being a person who enjoys the repetative use of duplicating block after block exactly alike, Karla's shuffle system was just what I needed to give me the feeling that each block was different, and kept my interest from slipping away. The only drawback I found in this book was that it was *batik & hand dyed fabric* intensive, and didn't really show what the results would be if using other types of fabric.

Ever since I did my first work using Karla Alexander's shuffling method, I loved it! I recommend it highly to non-classical patchwork and quilters. I have just bought her 3rd book which will be edited in October 2009.

This one will not gather dust on your shelf,
This review is from: New Cuts for New Quilts: More Ways to Stack the Deck (Paperback)
This book will not gather dust on your shelf because you'll actually use it to make the projects in it.
The quilt on the cover is my favorite quilt in the book and I started making it as soon as I got the book and the fabric home. I have a few more projects in it bookmarked for future quilts and I know they will be as fun, quick, and rewarding as the first one.

Easy, fun quilts to use fabric waiting,

their turn on my own shelves! I find I can combine a variety of fabrics I own and loved, once. The patterns use so many fabrics, you can hardly make a mistake and you have fun doing it anyway . Sometimes I put in more layers of fabric than she recommends so that my variety is increased. I never tire of seeing the various combinations of fabrics, including sleepers and zingers that have no other home to go to. Her pattern's lend themselves to whatever look you want.
