In March 2005, firefighter/engineer Tom Barilla was hit by tour bus that failed to yield to his emergency vehicle that was responding to an accident on the 10 freeway in Southern California. He suffered major trauma to his brain, face and upper body. Most people thought he wouldn't survive, but God gave them a miracle.

This book is a powerfully honest retelling of how their faith in God carried them through and how family, friends, church, community, and the brotherhood of firefighters came together in their time of need.

Very little information is available for the families and friends of those who have suffered traumatic brain injuries. This book gives insight, hope and inspiration to others walking this path.

I could not put this book down. I appreciated the author's complete honesty in sharing her feelings every step of the way. The way their community came together to help their family inspired me to be constantly aware of the suffering around me and caused me to want to reach out and help those who are struggling. I learned that the even the simplest thoughtful deed can heal in a tremendous way.

I have knowledge of this event and know one of the brothers of the family involved. When I heard of the accident and what Tom's injuries were, it sounded pretty grave. For Tom to make a full recovery and go back to full duty is a miracle. This is a very tough and proud family that really came together to make it through everything. If you are looking for a book that is well written, inspiring, and proves that miracles can happen then this is a great read.

This book is a fascinating, encouraging, brutally honest account of Dora's life once her husband was involved in a horrific fire engine/bus accident. I read it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down. The proceeds of the book goes to help families of someone with a brain injury. I'm grateful that Dora was willing to share her story in writing!

Love the encouragment that was shared in this book. Reading the story of what happened to her husband and how they got through it was awesome. To hear of his miracle recovery in the hospital was great, but to also hear about the recovery process that continued even after he was home was so enlightening. I appreciated her candidness.
