The "NEW" Blues Guitar God!,
By
This review is from: New Day Yesterday (Audio CD)
I saw Joe and his band "LIVE" before I bought this CD. He had filled in for Gov't Mule when Allen Woody had died just two days before. Unfortunately there were only about 85 people there MAX!(Unfortunate for those who did not attend). When they broke into the first song (Rory Gallagher's Cradle Rock)you would have thought they were playing in front of a sold out stadium!!! They NEVER let up! They continued to [rock] out of every song they played! When I got the CD I wasn't expecting "ANYTHING" like the show I had seen but...........IT WAS BETTER! Produced perfectly and has that "LIVE" feel to every song. Has a few "Guest's" also! Joe Bonamassa is absolutely, positively the BEST Blues/Rock Guitar Player out there right now! "LOOK OUT KENNY WAYNE SHEPERD AND JONNY(WHO)? There is a NEW kid in town and he is about to take over the spot Stevie Ray left void!! You can see him live now in "VERY SMALL" venues but when the word get's out..........LOOK OUT! "BUY THIS CD if you like SRV, Rory Gallagher,"Old" Eric Clapton, Chris Duarte, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Jimi Hendrix, Albert King; YOU WILL LOVE THIS CD!!!!"

8/13/89: It's a beautiful hot sunny day with beer, BBQ,& several blues bands (and all for free since I won 2 tickets for me & my wife). Danny Gatton jammin' on stage. Between songs he introduces 12 yr old Smokin' Joe. Danny gives Joe his guitar to play a song with his band while Danny watches. It's been a great day of blues music so far, & it's really cool to see this young boy about to play, but from the 1st note I'm no longer thinking it's cool to see this kid playing, I'm hearing the best music I've heard so far that day (no joke). Close your eyes & forget it's a 12 year old jammin' on stage, this is great music from a great musician. I'm amazed @ what I hear! Afterwards I go talk to him to find out who he was, how old he is, how long he's been playing, etc. For 11+ yrs & 20+ shows I've been a fan. At 12 he could already play SRV songs just like Stevie. His style has been evolving ever since, & he just keeps getting better. This new CD is great, but NOTHING compared to hearing him live!

Incredible CD,..Guitar Players Must Have,
By JR Riccio (Somerset, New Jersey United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Day Yesterday (Audio CD)
Joe B., here on this release shines with a tight, energy-stoked power trio. 'Smokin'' Joe has moved on since Bloodline, and I think has found a groove where his talent and emotion rise to the top. He's a student of masters, and he shows how close he's been listening all these years,..Tone and delivery is over the top on this RD,..Fans of SR V, Hendrix, Satriani, KWS, will eat this CD up cut after cut..With Greg Allman, Rick Derringer, and others sitting in, this is the best guitar rock/blues CD I've opened in a year at least,..it nevers leaves the rotation. Steamy lines of blues, killer rock riffs, and gentle but passionate use of scales&modes,..Joe cuts across the landscape of the guitar heroes, plus has some great vocal chops..Song writing is top-notch, not since the early days of the Allman Bros, and SRV will you get a rush like this one. Tony Cintron (drums) - of SpyroGyro fame, and Cremo Liss on bass,..this rytm' section is as tight as they come. I can't wait for the next one...

Can you say "Guitar Playing"?,

How often do we get a chance to hear a well schooled artist play from the heart?Joe Bonamassa has long been a student of rockin' blues. He's learned from the masters, he's done his homework, and now he gives a lesson ...to just about every player left standing.

You will need two copies!!,
By Jerry (Manassas, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Day Yesterday (Audio CD)
Joe Bonamassa is an extraordinary blues and rock guitarist, composer, and vocalist.. It is truely unbelievable to hear sounds that cry out with such intensity and experience from an individual as relatively young as Joe.. Every single song on this CD provides a contibution to the work, ie: NO FILLER!! I cannot pick a favorite! He is a true blues/rock guitar master and demonstrates this with every turn. You can clearly hear all of the influences including Jimi, SRV, and I believe maybe a touch of Robin Trower, among many others.. I experienced the awesomeness of his stage sound last summer, Fender Telecaster pumping Marshall amps, and this CD is EXACTLY what I remembered.. If you are a blues guitar fan, you WILL fall in love with this CD.. I am thinking of getting another copy, one for the house and one for the truck!! INCREDIBLE steaming guitar!! A MUST HAVE..

Bonamassa Rocks,

I have just recently seen Bonamassa at Konocti Harbor and was completely surprised. I figured he was just there as a warm up band for George Thorogood. On the contrary his performance was outstanding. Shades of Stevie Ray Vaughn,Jimi Hendrix,Eric Clapton and Duane Almond came through the intricate guitar work. Some of the music was laced with the old style jam session with vocals that were powerful.Throughout the entire show the music held a special quality that was all his own. After the gig I purchased this cd and So,It's like that. Both cd's are an accurate reflection of the live version. If you get a chance to see this performer don't miss it. Don't be surprised !!!

LOOK OUT! Here comes Joe!,
By "perrysite" (Woodburn, IN United States) - See all my reviews

I have seen the future of blues rock, and it is Joe Bonamassa. If all is right with the world, He will be the next Stevie Ray Vaughn. Okay, I know that's controversial. No one could fill Stevie's shoes. However, Joe and his band have the kind of tight musicianship, songwriting, and incredible live performance that could make them the next biggest blues act. If you get a chance to see them live, trust me, DON'T MISS IT! All this guy needs is exposure. This is the kind of blues rock that is a rare find these days. My favorites on this disc include the title track, New Day Yesterday, Colour and Shape, If Heartache's were Nickles, and Don't Burn Down That Bridge.

I never thought I would say that someone was better than, or even as good as Stevie Ray Vaughn, but I have heard this amazing new guitarist, and it took my breath away. Joe is as good if not better than SRV, although I hate to compare different players. I do hear a little of Eric C. also in his music. If you like blues guitar, you owe it to yourself to buy this cd. Words cannot do justice to the talent of this young man!!!

Blues Rock Gem,
By Paul "pdiddly" (Duluth, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Day Yesterday (Audio CD)
I bought this under the recommendation of Amazon. I am quite impressed. This guy has a gritty, soulful Greg Allman or Jonny Langish voice. There's alot of SRV-Type blues mixed with rock riffs. He's a much better guitarist than he leads you to believe. My reluctance to give it 5 stars is based on the fact that his choice of guest musicians (Leslie West? Rick Derringer?) although credible, detract rather than add to their tracks on this CD. This guy has alot more up his sleeve and I can't wait to hear it.
