5.0 out of 5 stars Next Best Thing to Being There
I was absolutely certain that no CD could ever surpass the flawless merger of blues & rock that Joe Bonamassa served up on the studio version of A New Day Yesterday--until I listened to A New Day Yesterday Live! It captures Joe's primo playing and the musical preference-altering experience of those who had the good fortune to witness it live at that particular show. A...

3.0 out of 5 stars The show is 6 stars; the disc production is 1 star
Joe Bonamassa is truly a gifted individual. This live recording from early in his solo career (2001) is absolutely wonderful! The man (and his band) can flat out wail. It's just incredibly dissapointing that the disc production was so gawd-awful. I've purchased (and then returned) this disc 5 times. I've never been able to get a clean version. The disc usually plays...

It captures Joe's primo playing and the musical preference-altering experience of those who had the good fortune to witness it live at that particular show. A New Day Yesterday Live is definitely a must-have for those stretches between live shows, as well as serving preparatory purposes for those who have yet to experience one.

The disc usually plays fine until "The Colour and the Shape" or "Trouble Waiting". After that, it skips, scratches, pops, and sometimes just stops because of the errors.

Have tried different players, different computers, different encoding software, different vendors (actually bought another copy of the disc last night at the JB show in Annapolis). All have the same problem. It's absolutely maddening!

Would suggest getting the DVD instead... includes the same material (and a bit more), but the DVD doesn't leave you frustrated by poor CD production AND let's you experience what live Joe Bonamassa can be like... a truly wonderful thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Joe Blues Bonamas'ter', September 16, 2005

Joe Bonamassa is all over his guitar, and with both an exceptional bassist and drummer, has recorded a true gift for blues lovers. I have been listening to the blues/rock for quite a few 24's and Mr. Bonamassa touched my soul. He is gentle and strong - and absolutely kicks ass!

5.0 out of 5 stars You need this!, March 9, 2005

Might as well buy two because you're gonna want a spare, it will get worn out. This is the best live disc ever and the dvd of this show is out of this world. Nobody can play guitar like Joe and the band rocks! if you buy this and don't absolutely love it, let me know, I will buy it from you. I am not good at describing music I guess but I can tell you Joe Bonamassa rocks the blues like nothing I have ever heard. He never fails to thrill. Make sure you take your blood pressure medicine, this disc should have a warning label.

3.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MUSIC! TERRIBLE PRESSING!, March 4, 2006
This review is from: New Day Yesterday Live (Audio CD)
My second Bonamassa CD...really liked the music. Takes me back to my Jeff Beck days! Unfortunately, last cut, which is killer by the way, is unlistenable due to lousy quality pressing. Keeps cutting out, jumping and actually skipping like an old fashioned LP. Tried on three different CD players...same symptoms on different places of the track. Even returned CD to Amazon but problem persisted! (GREAT RETURN SERVICE, GUYS!)Settled for refund. Oh well maybe some new day yesterday I'll reorder and hope for a new pressing!

This is a terrific CD !!...this is the first Bonamassa CD I've heard and I was blown (away)...I'm more partial to live CDs versus studio ones and this really captures the energy and great technical skill of Joe & his band...the standard that I measure CDs by is how many consecutive times it is rotated in my car stereo; this one is now on 8 times & counting !!...I would highly recommend it !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great live performance, August 15, 2005

I recently discovered JB based on an Amazon "recommendation". I think a "live" album is one of the best ways to evaluate an artist's true talents and Joe shines in this one. His guitar playing places him among the legendary blues rockers IMHO and his voice is perfect for the genre. All of the cuts are juicy but the title track as well as "Nickels" are especially well done. I never expected a Tull cover to Rock like "New Day" but this one does.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've seen him live , and believe me ...., December 17, 2004

if he's on your side of the Mississippi , or even within plane fare distance , go see him . These cuts are going to force me to buy a DVD player , all I have now is a cassette of 'em recorded off the DVD output , and along with Blues Deluxe the rest of 'em in the glove compartment are gathering dust . No 3 guys do it better than these 3 .

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Live CD, July 18, 2004
By
This review is from: New Day Yesterday Live (Audio CD)
Fantastic doesn't do this one justice. It may be one of the best live recordings of all time. Joe Bonamassa is an incredible 27 year old guitar talent who has been playing guitar for 23 of those years. He plays like he has 7 fingers on each hand and the guitar is part of his body. He comes out of the blues rock tradition, but he just plain rocks. Do whatever you have to to come up with a copy of this cd. You will not be disappointed!
