Editorial Reviews

Fourth studio album from I See Stars. Bringing together more elements of rock, metal and electronica to light for this new release.

I will go over those here.

The programming sounds way different than their prior work, while the overall "feel" of the album remains incredibly true to their identity.
D. Scofield
I expected this album to be good but when I first listened to the whole thing it just blew me away.

It's probably my favorite electronicore CD out there. The effects are similar to Digital Renegade, but feature a more "heavy" sound. I've listened to it a few times and most (if not all) of the tracks are worth listening to. If you like I See Stars, you won't be disappointed!

This album is stellar, from start to finish it is a thoroughly enjoyable listen. Everything about this album is a step up from previous works. A few major things that set it apart from a lot of other bands, is the song structure, elements added, and vocal style. I will go over those here.

The first major point is song structure. I am a very big fan of thinking outside the box, and I love a band that will deviate from standard song formations. (my favorite band August Burns Red are masters at differing song structures) Throughout this album, I See Stars throws curveball after curveball. Just when you think you know where a song is going, they move on to something else. This makes the album a very interesting and unpredictable listening experience, and I enjoy that very much. That being said, if you like your music to be very orderly you might not enjoy this album as much as their past works. I for one enjoy twists and turns, and this album has plenty.

My next major point is the elements added. I See Stars has always incorporated dance and electronic elements in their music, but this album takes it to new heights. Pretty much every song has memorable electronic elements in it, and they are used very well. The instrumentation and electronics blend amazingly well, and they make this album stand out from other bands with synths and keys.

The third point I want to hit on is the vocals. Oliver's cleans are really nothing new, if you're a fan of the band you will not be disappointed at all, as he puts out a very similar performance as he always does. Zach's screams, however, have gotten vastly better since the last album. He's changing up his style, adding some mid range yelling, and his lows are getting steadily more brutal.

I See Stars have set the bar. Others entering into this style now know who to try and beat. Way to go!

I like it, but I thought digital renegade was more impacting. I follow the cd all the way through, but it's lacking something that I cannot place. I've only given it a few run throughs so I'll update/upgrade the review if I warm up to it.

The clean singer's voice takes some getting used to as it's a bit feminine/high pitched. Overall though, I See Stars is a very good band, and this is a very good album. They have a unique sound to them that sets them apart from a lot of other metalcore groups. The only thing that they could improve on is the electronic part of their music. I love that they're mixing this element into their sound. However, a lot of it sounds like blatant techno (which I know, I know, it's supposed to). Occasionally though, some of their songs like New Demons take on almost an industrial flavor. IMO this is a much better sound for them as far as the electronics are concerned, and they should stick with that formula more often. It gives them a much more aggressive tone, which fits better with their guitars and creates a really awesome contrast to their clean vocals.

These guys, have continued to amaze me. Their albums continue to get better and better. Each one is more mature than the last one, and this is no exception. While most bands like this tend to sound the same, these dudes are setting themselves apart from the industry. The programming sounds way different than their prior work, while the overall "feel" of the album remains incredibly true to their identity.

This album is a must have fro electronic metal lovers.
