I have been studying Japanese for over 15 years. This book is by far my favorite and I have been through 4 copies (they wear out since I use them so much).
You won't go wrong with this dictionary!

I bought this as a present for my son who is beginning his fourth year of Japanese. The book is an amazing reference for the study of Kanji (1 character = 1 word). For each of the 2000 entries, it shows you stroke order, the pieces that make up the character (woman + home = happiness), other words that use similar base pieces, and characters that may be confused with this one. It is well layed out and easy to read. I was very impressed.
