As a professional in the decision support industry, I have read/skimmed through over a dozen CI "manuals". While a majority of these approach CI from an academic standpoint, few, if any, actually provide the reader with a chance to "sit in the skin" of an executive that is pressed to effectively utilize CI in a professional setting. This tale walks you through the challenge that Jack Turner is facing and allows the reader to co-identify the ahas throughout. A suggested read for newcomers and veterans in CI as well as executives seeking to obtain a competitive advantage within the evolving market.

This was a tough book to put down! I wanted to, no, needed to find out how the story ended and whether or not Jack Turner was able to figure out a way to make his visions a reality within his firm. Along the way, I found out a lot more information about CI than I imagined I would! I have been hearing many CI buzzwords in the past year or two, not really knowing what it all added up to in the real world. After asking around, I heard many false beliefs, assumptions and crass terms associated with CI. It was not until I read this book that that the truth and fundamentals about CI truly became clear. It is written in such a way that everyone, from business students to the most experienced professionals, can learn from and use the information in this book to their advantage. I particularly found the recap of important CI do's and don'ts as well as the Highlights from Jack Turner's CI Bible quite helpful. What a fresh way to write what could have been a drab and boring how-to manual!

New Direction: A Competitive Intelligence Tale was a very easy read, it only took about 2 hours to read.
It's written in story format that shows examples of how to search for little pieces of information that can make all the difference in staying ahead of your competition.
This book shows you how to do C I in a Legal and Ethical way!
I would highly recommend this book for all our executives at my company.

I am a MBA student who takes Business Intelligence/Competitive Intelligence course where our professor recommends this.

I did not know anything about BI/CI before taking the course but after reading this book. Easy, story, interesting, and practical book showed me overview of CI to actually implement.
