I have yet to find books on a miniature dollhouse topic that does not lift you up and carry you away into that world. You get so involved and grabbed by the various interesting items you can create and with people like Venus & Martin Dodge, your journey is ensured to be a pleasant one. I found 'The New Dolls' House Do-It-Yourself Book' an absolute treasure trove of new and exciting ideas. Thank you, Venus and Martin Dodge, for sharing your passion with others.

I absolutely love this book! It was so worth buying. I have found so many great ideas for my miniature house and the instructions are so easy. I also love the patterns they included. They're very easy to follow.

A book worthy for the Miniaturist book shelf! I love it!,

This review is from: The New Dolls' House Do-It-Yourself Book (Paperback)
Now, this is a book worth reading, buying, and keeping on the shelf ready to make use of or just to transport to another world. Not as great as a couple of other books out there for making furniture and accessories, but just as useful. This book has a lot of ideas, just not as many as some older books have. The book is all in color; a definite plus to show you what the items, rooms and houses look like and covers scales of 1/12 and the smaller child's dollhouse scale of 1/16. First published in 1982, this new and extended edition is copyrighted 1993. This book begins with the planning stages of the dollhouse, building the house, and goes into decorating and lighting, fixtures and fitting, furniture, accessories and more. It also shows how to build a dollhouse out of a cupboard, to make an antique shop, the Victorian Town House, the Tudor Cottage and more. There is even a chapter on making dolls for the dollhouse and renovation of dollhouses.
From the back dust jacket: Venus and Martin Dodge have been making dolls' houses for nearly twenty years, and have written five popular and successful books on dolls' houses, dolls and miniatures. Venus designs the houses, makes soft furnishings, accessories and dolls, repairs antique dolls and writes; while Martin builds the houses, makes furniture and draws patterns and plans. The have also build dolls' houses to commission and restored old houses." I highly recommend this book for the dollhouse, doll or miniature room enthusiast. Sure to become worthy of your many reviews: Worthy of a place on any bookshelf. |
