David Ewen's book on opera is easy to use and a pleasure to review all facets of the Opera. Everything is simply put into alphabetical order so there is no scrambling back and forth between sections. As a member of The New Castle Lyric Opera board, I have found Mr. Ewen's "New Encyclopedia of the Opera" very helpful for discussion not only about production values and there formulation but also for a clearer and enjoyable understanding of each character and his or her relationship to the music.
