A Good Scare,
This review is from: The New England Ghost Files (Paperback)
I have read this book more than once. As a New England native, I was fascinated to learn some of the "history" of this area. The multiple witnesses to these stories, combined with the research the author conducted, made these stories very believable. The writing style was a bit simplistic, but all in all, this is worth a read. (Warning: After reading "Don't Look In The Closet," you may have to leave your light on at night!) Enjoy!

This was THE most frightening book I have ever read - and I've been reading and studying the paranormal for 30 years. I can't sleep with this book in the same room.

Incredible fire-side reading for thrill-seekers, young & old,

This review is from: The New England Ghost Files (Paperback)
In Ghost Files, Robinson leads the reader on a wonderful journey and this trip leads down some corridors of the universe which have not yet been mapped. Although some of those corridors proved to be dark and frightening, I am truly grateful for having gone. I enjoyed the book- thoroughly, not just for the spine-tingling effect, but also for the nostalic feeling of age-old folklore which has been missing from our society long enough! I commend the author for restoring the fun of fire-side reading back into my home. For those who are equally intrigued by mystery and want to take a peek at what lies beyond.....I dare you! I'll meet you on the other side!!!

The best book yet on "true" New England hauntings.,

This review is from: The New England Ghost Files (Paperback)
I've loaned this book out so many times I had to buy a second copy. The stories are both interesting and believable. The author does his best to protect the privacy of some haunted home owners but there's plenty of descriptions of public places for those who want to do some investigating on their own. It's the most entertaining book on New England hauntings I've found yet.

Living in New England and being close to Salem and the House of Seven Gables, a bit of the folklore rubs off and gets into your blood. Especially now, with all the TV shows about paranormal activities, it creates an interest in the afterlife. What better way to hand down these New England stories than by creating a book about them. God only knows if they are true or not, but regardless, they are short, entertaining stories- similar to what you'd tell kids at a camp fire. Actually, I work with a woman who swears that she once saw the man in red on the hiway leading to Cape Cod.
If you want entertainment, this should do well. If you want a more serious approach to ghosts and the paranormal, this probably won't or shouldn't do the trick.

Read it at night, alone in the house...if you dare,

This is the best kind of true ghost story books. Short and to the point, each story manages to provide the chill that all good ghosts stories, whether fictional or not, are able to create. While some of the stories are more terrifying than others, some have an added poignancy. I highly recommend this collection.

This is by far the best collection of true New England ghost encounters available. The witnesses are all very credible and I like the fact that the author is a scientist (anthropologist) and knows how to interview people and separate fact from fiction. The accounts range from hair-raising to humorous, with some of them being quite poignant. You won't be able to put it down. Even if you're not from New England or particularly interested in this area, if you're a fan of ghost stories you'll love this book (if you're not a fan it may make you one!)
Around Halloween my husband and I invite friends over for dinner and ghost stories, and often read aloud from this book. It's great fun and stimulates interesting conversation, debate, and sharing of personal encounters with the "supernatural" (it's more common that you might think). Mr. Robinson, if you're reading this, please consider doing some more research and writing another book!

I am from New England. This book is one of the best books I have ever read. I could not put it down. Once you read it, you will be convinced that there is such a thing as the supernatural. Enjoy!

I remember reading this as a child and scaring myself into insomnia. Its really good and scary. I've had my own ghost experiences and they are similar to the stories. I highly recommend the book for anyone looking for a scare! Its easy to read and they're all broken up into short stories recounted by those who experienced the chilling episodes. Its cool how the author also does research to back up their stories.
