From Library Journal
This book ranges in subject matter from offering tips on how to grow herbs, including advice on soil preparation and garden design, to discussing how to use them in cookery, medicine, toiletries, and crafts. Each section, which covers a specific topic, also includes a number of recipes and "plant profiles" of 75 specific herbs. The book provides a good introduction to the subject, but the profiles and recipes are scattered indiscriminately throughout the text: for example, the basil profile is in the tea chapter, and bay leaf shows up in the container gardening chapter. Likewise, one recipe for cough syrup appears in the soil preparation section, and another in the medicine chapter. If you can ignore this flaw, the book is attractive, informative, and useful for patrons all over North America, as very little of the data is specific to New England.
