More About the Author

"I've always had a great interest in the stories of people's lives - their accomplishments, defeats, joys and sorrows," said author Carol Lee Anderson during a recent interview. "The stories that describe how problems were dealt with offer all of us guidance through our own challenges and can give us an enormous amount of insight into life."

There is a common thread that runs through Anderson's articles and her books - it is the belief that nothing is insurmountable, and hurdles, no matter how daunting, can be overcome.

Her first book, "The History of Gunstock: Skiing in the Belknap Mountains," tells the story of the development of today's Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford, NH. In 2011, the book won the prestigious Skade Award from the International Skiing History Association. She followed with "The New England Life of Cartoonist Bob Montana: Beyond the Archie Comic Strip," which chronicles the inspirational life of one of America's greatest cartoonists. The book focuses on the life Montana led in Meredith, NH, where he lived, worked and raised his family.

This summer Anderson's "A History of the Belknap Mill: The Pride of Laconia's Industrial Heritage" will be published by The History Press. The book tells the story of America's oldest unaltered brick textile mill and its innovative owners and proud operatives that have become part of the mill's long and informative history.

For nearly a decade, Anderson has been a freelance writer, writing monthly history articles for newspapers in central NH. The press releases and articles she writes for numerous companies and organizations appear on a regular basis in regional and national publications. Currently, she is writing a book about the history of water skiing in NH's Lakes Region.

She lives in the Lakes Region of NH with her husband and their two children. Living surrounded by the natural beauty and simplicity of the lakes and mountains of the Lakes Region has had a tremendous effect on her life and writing. Her favorite place to be is at home surrounded by her family, enjoying the simple things in life - together.

This book is best described as a 'love letter' to the town of Meredith, the folks who live/lived there, and of course Bob Montana and his family. If you're expecting some sort of 'warts 'n' all' exposé, forget it. This little volume is a pleasant, gentle, non-cynical, almost naive journey into lives and history of the Montana's, their friends and other denizens of what sounds almost like the sort of town you'd see in an Andy Hardy film. I have no complaints about this. In fact it makes for a pleasant change. I for one am sick of 'doom and gloom', and this book works toward reaffirming the belief that their are still folks out there with a positive and upbeat view of life, people, family and the communities in which they choose to reside and build a life.

A truly enjoyable read! Bob Montana was a man who lived life to the fullest, and Carol Lee Anderson manages to capture that aspect as she tells the story of his life. While he was very involved in the community, he brought many of the members of that community into his comic strips. You can visit the Lakes Region of New Hampshire with Archie as you enjoy reading this book.
