This is the elementary coursebook that gets students talking, and that helps teachers and students more than any other.

New English File Elementary,
By Marcelo Esteban Mauricio (San Justo, Buenos Aires, Argentina) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New English File (Paperback)
New English File, as its name suggests, is the new and improved version of English File. Unlike the original English File, which came in four levels (Beginner, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Upper-Intermediate), the new version is a revision of the first two levels (Beginner and Pre-Intermediate.)
Unlike the original English File 1, which is divided into 10 files or units, the new version has 9 files for both levels. Also unlike the previous version, where you would encounter several sections on each file from A to (sometimes) H, the files in the new edition only have four sections: A, B, C and D. A new addition to the new version is the MultiROM, which contains both an audio CD (in the original edition refered to as the "Listen and Speak" cassette/CD) and a CD-ROM, which the original English File did not have. The CD-ROM part of the CD contains the videos from the New English File video program available in both DVD and VHS format. If you play the MultiROM on a regular CD player, one of the sections will be the Mini-Phrasebook, in which, when you hear a sentence, you respond to it. Here's an example of how the Mini-Phrasebook works: YOU HEAR: Hello, how are you? YOU SAY: Fine, thanks or OK, thanks or whatever you use to say when asked that question in public. Also, there has been a change on the number of cassettes/CDs for the Class Audio Program. Whereas English File 1 had 3 cassettes or 4 CDs for the Class Audio Program, New English File has 3 Cassettes/CDs for the Class Audio Program. Thank you for your attention.

Why doesn't the publisher describe the booK?,
By
This review is from: English File - New Edition. Upper-Intermediate. Part A Student's Book, Workbook with Key und Multi-CD-ROM (Paperback)
I gave this a 3 for "Unknown." Why is there so brief of a description? Possible buyers would like to know more about any book than is given here. What is the point of the word "file" in the title. I would guess that there might be something special or at least different in this ESL book, but the author and publisher have chosen to use the silent approach.
