Writer did not get to the "core" of what God intends for women,
This review is from: The New Eve (Hardcover)
I have read many books that help women discover God's purpose for their lives...several that I read and reread and underlined...and journaled about...always learning more and more. They brought about real understanding, instilled courage and brought me closer to the heart of God.
The New Eve, however, is not such a book. I would not recommend it. The author failed to strike a cord with me as he did not appear to really understand the true core of a woman's heart. Instead, he relies on artificial stereotypes and simplistic diagrams that fail to describe the hearts and lives of the many women I have known. Robert Lewis bases much of the book on three core callings of all women: 1) to seek deep, lasting companionship with a man; 2)to raise up and launch healthy, godly children into the world and 3) to advance God's kingdom on earth in ways specific to your gifting. It troubles me that #1 is not "to seek a deep, lasting, intimate relationship with God. When that becomes our core calling, God in turn reveals an intensely mysterious and wonderfully rich purpose and path which is unique for each and every woman...whether we will be single or married, whether we will bear, adopt, foster children or live for Him in another way. There is an example given of the token woman who does not marry or have children; she is portrayed as a courageous woman who is able to make good of her situation. She will ask God why he did not give her #1 and #2 core callings when she gets to heaven. Much of the book seems to be written from a 1950s view of ideal womanhood with patches of "modern day" roles sewn on top to attempt to make it more contemporary and palatable. This very simplistic and flawed approach fails to recognize the immense love, strength and creativity of God and how he unleashes them in the life of a woman who seeks Him first. I think women want to know how to seek God, how to deal with the weaknesses, fears and struggles that were unleashed in Genesis and to be truly able to fully become who God desires them to be. The entire Bible is rich with such great wisdom for women...There was not much guiding the reader to dig deep into every corner of the Bible. Instead there were the diagrams and generalizations that seemed to fall short of what I would want my friend, daughter or any woman reading this review to have as a guide.

Incredibly encouraging!,
By Carrie O "Carrie" (Little Rock, AR United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Eve (Hardcover)
I have read the entire book and then re-read several sections as needed for reference. As a 31-year old female, I found the insights Dr. Lewis shared to be incredibly encouraging and life-breathing. He provides some very simple, straight-forward insights into the role of women in the world today, and although some of them are hard truths to read, it was what I needed to hear. I have given copies of this book to several of my friends who are in the same season of life as me, and they have also found the truths shared in this book to be encouraging, challenging and worth their time to think about. I highly recommend buying and reading this book to anyone female who is looking to choose God's best for their lives.

Undecided,
This review is from: The New Eve (Hardcover)
I am having a hard time relating to the "core callings" that the author is baseing this book on. It seems a little outdated to me...or shortsided I guess, but I really loved the different concepts of worldviews...that helped me a lot.
I realized that I (even as a Christian woman) have a "whatevers in" worldview...moreso than I ever thought. I also liked the description of Eve, and the mistakes involved in the Fall and how that effects us to this day...that is eye opening and helpful.

The New Eve,
By Linda S. (Little Rock) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Eve (Hardcover)
I love The New Eve! It's so readable and relevant for women (of all ages) who are trying to figure out how to live well in a sometimes-confusing world. I found it to be practical yet profound. The discussion questions at the back and the dvd with coaching tips for small group leaders are all you need to lead a discussion group. It's a turnkey deal! The author gives examples of real women who have grappled with isses that all of us face and then uses biblical truth and principles to guide us to wise choices. I highly recommend this book! ~ Linda S.

Womanhood from a Biblical Perspective,
By Cheryl R. (Little Rock, AR) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Eve (Hardcover)
The New Eve is a book that examines womanhood from a Biblical perspective like none other I have read. The five point definition of womanhood gives a clear goal for women today and how they should view their world and the world around them. The chapters on the seasons of a woman's life gives you ways to stategically examine how you are living as you move from season to season. In today's world, as women, we are bombarded with views on how we should live our lives. Robert Lewis gives us an instruction manual based on God's plan for us, combined with a sound Biblical perspective, so that we are making choices based on our core callings, not the societal norm. I recommend this book for women from 12 to 102!

Real Life Issues,
This review is from: The New Eve (Hardcover)
As a working mom it is hard not to see my life in to do's and grocery lists. Robert's research in both contemporary and Biblical events help me step back and evaluate how I manage my time and my priotities with regard to God's will in my life. The New Eve is not a list of stifling rules and legalism, but has practical advice and real core callings that help me see my life as a great adventure. The DVD and small group discussion starters also make it easy to use with women from all stages of life. ~Margaret Feurtado

"The New Eve" by Robert Lewis is a must read for every Christian woman interested knowing what God's Word has to say about being a woman created in His image and living in a world that scoffs at God. It is very practicle and helpful. My husband read it too. He said he learned a lot about himself.

A New Eve could be on the thriller list if you want to hear the truth about who God made you to be. The New Eve's heart message is that God made us special and unique according to the Word of God and He desires for us not to forget why He choose us to help our husbands and find our true idenitity in Christ. Whether you're single or married The New Eve encourages us to seek a relationship with Christ first and read God's Word so we can truly find a peace that passes all understanding.
