4.0 out of 5 stars the adventure of bread pudding, March 12, 2002
This review is from: New-Fangled, Old-Fashioned Bread Puddings: Sixty Recipes for Delectable Sweet and Savory Puddings, Puffs, Stratas, and Bread Souffles (Paperback)
Who knew that there were so many recipes for bread pudding? My wife has always loved bread pudding on Christmas morning. So when I saw this book at the library, I had to check it out. I am very glad I did.

"New-Fangled, Old-Fashioned Bread Puddings: Sixty Recipes for Delectable Sweet and Savory Puddings, Puffs, Stratas, and Bread Soufflés" is packed with all kinds of goodies. There is something here for everyone (unless you hate bread for some reason).

There are, of course, the sweeter choices. Recipes like Crunchy Apple Bread Pudding, Coconut Rum Custard, and Fudgy Chocolate Hazelnut Bread Pudding will definitely appeal to those with a sweet tooth.

For those looking for something a little heartier, selections abound. The Eggplant, Basil, and Parmesan Bread Pudding with Charred Tomato Vinaigrette is a meal in itself. The Welsh Rarebit Single Strata and the Winter Spiced German Steamed Bread Pudding are textbook definitions of comfort food.

There are so many great recipes here that I could go on endlessly about them. Yet to do so would be wasting your time. Instead, I encourage you to get this book right now--and start cooking! You will not be disappointed.

I recommend "New-Fangled, Old-Fashioned Bread Puddings" very highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bread Pudding, September 15, 2005
This review is from: New-Fangled, Old-Fashioned Bread Puddings: Sixty Recipes for Delectable Sweet and Savory Puddings, Puffs, Stratas, and Bread Souffles (Paperback)
I've always loved bread pudding, ever since the first time I tried it. Basic bread pudding is extremely easy to make, and this book has some great variations. There is a chapter all about bread pudding, then chapters for various sweet ones, savory ones, and chocolate ones. Some of the sweet recipes are; apricot-honey bread pudding, caramel-pumpkin bread pudding, kahlua bread pudding, and bourbon-pecan-chocolate bread pudding. Curried acorn squash bread pudding and scallop and vegetable breda pudding are a couple examples of the savory recipes included. Some would work very well for the holidays, such as; eggnog custard, and rum-raisin bread pudding. The book is out of print, but you can buy it used. It is well worth it.

This review is from: New-Fangled, Old-Fashioned Bread Puddings: Sixty Recipes for Delectable Sweet and Savory Puddings, Puffs, Stratas, and Bread Souffles (Paperback)
This is a wonderful book for those of us who love bread pudding! I grew up with the delicious "basic" bread pudding recipe until I found "New-Fangled, Old-Fashioned Bread Puddings" several years ago. Now I can make savory, fruit, and dessert bread puddings as well. It is a wonderful way to use up those excess bread ends, or loaves of bread, as a delicious addition to a meal or even a quick and easy healthful and filling snack during the day.

I found and bought a copy of this book on Amazon as a Christmas gift for my niece whose family also eats and loves bread pudding. I know she will enjoy it just as much as I do!
