women and men have needed this book for a long time!,
By Jonni O'Connor "Jonni O'Connor" (Vancouver Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Feminine Brain: How Women Can Develop Their Inner Strengths, Genius, and Intuition (Hardcover)
Women and men have needed this book for a long time. Bravo to Mona Lisa Schulz, M.D. Ph.D., for writing it! The New Feminine Brain: How Women Can Develop Their Inner Strengths, Genius and Intuition, is actually a layman's course in neuropsychiatry in that it offers up the science that supports a full understanding of the feminine brain.
Women have always known that they are born multi-taskers, that they have a sixth sense and a great sensitivity. Through Schulz's findings we discover why: women have more connections between their hormonally sensitive right and left brains. This is their greatest asset and alas, can be their greatest downfall, leaving them vulnerable to illness and stress. Without the care that comes through nutritional needs, mental exercises and an expanded understanding, many women are allowing their brains to adapt to survive in a male-dominated world. And with that adaptation, there is less creativity, physical well-being and joy. I loved this book. It's got it all: vitally important insight, solid clinical information, multiple strategies, and did I mention the humour? Schulz is hilarious in tone and sensitivity. If you appreciate the candor of Dr. Christianne Northrup's, The Wisdom of the Body, then you'll appreciate her dear friend Mona Lisa Schulz. You don't have to be female to read and value this optimistic book. It can change the way women and men think.

Not just for women! Amazing insights for men, too!,

This review is from: The New Feminine Brain: How Women Can Develop Their Inner Strengths, Genius, and Intuition (Hardcover)
Okay, I'm a guy, and I have to admit, a book about the "new" feminine brain would not be at the top of my reading list. But my girlfriend saw the author appear on CBS this morning and dashes out and gets the book. And unsuspecting fellow that I am, I pick it up in an idle moment when I get home this evening and think to myself, "Maybe this will help me understand the way my girlfriend thinks."
And it did! I have a whole newfound insight into and appreciation of the way my girlfriend thinks. Too often relationship books fall into glib clichés about the way men and women have different "communication styles" but from what Ms. Schulz shows is that it goes a whole lot deeper than that. And she backs up everything she says with super-clear explanations of the science behind it all. There are lots of fun tests that readers can use to see for themselves how their brains work, and even nutritional advice for improving everything from your intelligence to your mood. Way cool. Now I wish Mona Lisa Schulz would write a book for the way guys' brains work (okay, okay, I can hear my girlfriend snickering at the very notion).

Must read for women and men,
By Simone Barrington (Oregon, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Feminine Brain: How Women Can Develop Their Inner Strengths, Genius, and Intuition (Hardcover)
I am a perimenopausal woman. I did not even know how much anxiety I was suffering from until I read The Feminine Brain.
Mona Lisa Schulz clearly, concisely, and with amazing medical clarity helps you understand yourself and the medical issues you are having, gives you greater unsights about others, and a much broader understanding of the human brain. If it seems like it might be too "heady" of a read, it is not. I could not put the book down I was so fascinated by the information.

This review is from: The New Feminine Brain: How Women Can Develop Their Inner Strengths, Genius, and Intuition (Hardcover)
Mona Lisa Schulz has completely and entirely figured out why so many of us are depressed, anxious and suffer from panic attacks. She truly is a genius. She has taken mountains of information, boiled it down, condensed it and has presented to us the whys and hows of each of our different and uniqe forms of depression, ADD, ADHD, anxiety and panic.
If you want to know why you act the way you do, and you want to do something about it, you have to read this book. Then you have to share it with a friend. Lisa Harmon, Fellsmere, FL

This review is from: The New Feminine Brain: Developing Your Intuitive Genius (Paperback)
Mona Lisa is a double doctor and still remains board-certified and licensed. This tells you alot about her integrity and credibility from the start. Female brains differ from woman to woman and the unique constructions are what Mona Lisa works with. This book really is about working with your own wisdom and harnesing your own brain power to access intuitive genious. No two people are the same. Intuition and the intellect are together a powerful suportive force. Follow Mona Lisa's instructions on your brain style and see what unfolds. This is a winner.

Mona Lisa Schulz, MD and PhD, is an amazing intuitive who has synthesized the physical, emotional and neurological aspects of women to describe "how they work." She has given us the power to understand our bodies in order to create a more balanced, enjoyable life. Her examples are brilliant. Her synthesis is cutting edge. A must-read for all!!!

Exhilerating and fast-paced with life changing information contained in each paragraph on every page. Mona Lisa Schultz has a keen, marvelous, and wicked sense of humor that radiates healing energy from cover to cover. I look forward to reading it again and remembering even MORE after implementing her plan for menopausal memory loss and improving attention span. I highly recommend this transformational book.

A milestone...,
By MM (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The New Feminine Brain: Developing Your Intuitive Genius (Paperback)
This book is quite insightful and thought provoking. Mona Lisa Schulz has done a great job of taking mass amounts of complicated research and putting it into a form that the layman can understand. There is definitely a lack of good research on women's bodies/health and I think this book is a milestone in the field. I would highly recommend this book to any woman in any walk of life. The one drawback (if there was one) is that this book tends to be a bit pathological in general so one should caution against becoming a hypochondriac while reading. But as a whole I consider this to be an excellent book that can bring about awareness of the connections between work, family, stress, and physical and mental health.

Powerful Piece for Women and the Men Who Love Them,
By
This review is from: The New Feminine Brain: How Women Can Develop Their Inner Strengths, Genius, and Intuition (Hardcover)
Even though it is clinical in spots, after years of reading books on similar subjects, this book is definitive in its value to women, especially to those of us who want clear and direct information. I recommend this book to all women, regardless of age, as well as the men who love them.

"Emotions that you deny and refuse to admit into your conscious brain go into your body and lead to illness." ~ pg. 33
"The New Feminine Brain" needs to be read with and open mind and a sense of adventure. Mona Lisa Schulz has taken a ton of research and has woven it into a very detailed account of how the female brain functions on a daily basis. She also gives an excellent overview of basic negative emotions and the illnesses they cause. If the information in this book isn't motivation to change your thought patterns I don't know what is. If I had the time to list all the illnesses discussed in this book I would. Mona Lisa Schulz really helps you make informed choices about your health. This includes a thorough discussion of depression and anxiety and what medications are prescribed, along with the medication side effects. I found it interesting to read about intuition but that seemed to be a minor part of the book. There seemed to be other things that were more fascinating like how people who think on the bright side have to force themselves to think with their left brain. Mona Lisa Schulz also has insight into why people remain in destructive relationships. She also has a few interesting things to say about how cartoons can affect very young children. There are so many topics in this book. One moment you are reading about catnip tea and the next dream interpretation and feng shui. This is a somewhat calming read although it can at times be intellectually intense. I'd recommend this book especially to nurses and doctors who want to understand their female patients on a deeper level. While most of the book if about medical concerns Mona Lisa Schulz does tell a lot of personal stories. I found this to be endearing. She really has lived a fascinating life and has a lot of wisdom to share. So if you are looking for a book mostly about intuition you might be disappointed. If I was the author I'd rethink the subtitle. Maybe something like: "a personal journey to emotional healing" would be more precise. ~The Rebecca Review |
