Book Description

January 1, 1998
Poetry. NEW FIELDS AND OTHER STONES is a wonderful work. As a grief therapist and grief educator, I welcome this book on many levels. Readers will identify with every word and be inspired and hopeful. Whether you have a child die or have suffered from any loss, the author's words will ring a familiar chord not only in your heart but in your soul. - Shelley Grod Tatalbaum, Director, Center for Grief, Loss and Life Transition, Poughkeepsie, NY. Don't / tell him. He'll collapse. // I'll tell him when / his train gets here. / Your child (Pay Phone).

Editorial Reviews

Review

"As a poet who also has lost a child, and written about it, I have great admiration for the courage, grace, and voice of memory/experience that Saul Bennett shares in this moving, redemptive collection. What makes the book stand out is the Lieberman-like use of diction, adding another layer of tension with respect to the subject matter. This is as strong a debut as any poet has made into the world of letters." -- Michael Bugeja, author, 'The Visionary' and 'The Art & Craft of Poetry'

This review is from: New Fields and Other Stones: On a Child's Death (Hardcover)
This book is truly incredible. It reaches into the depths of human grief and sorrow helping anyone who has ever lost someone. Mr. Bennett is a true poetic craftsman and creates an overwhelming sense of empathy with the reader. From "The Commuter" to "The Griefmobile", Bennett takes the reader into the process of dealing with grief, seeing loss for what it is, and moving on into the world of eternal sadness with that hint of hope to carry on. I recommend this book for anyone who has lost someone OR anyone who thinks they never will.
