4.0 out of 5 stars detailed and lovely piece of electronic music, August 16, 2009

This review is from: New Folder (Audio CD)
I've had this album for a few months now, and it continues to grow on me. It's easy to get lost in all of the many great releases on Planet Mu over the years, but you shouldn't let this one slip past. It's an immacuately produced piece of techno music that does a fantastic job of mingling old school melodies with new school beats. The opening track "No Mo" lays the foundation as it chugs along without pausing for air, solidifying the groove for what's to follow. As the album continues to move along, the melodies begin to make themselves more evident, and the sounds get more immediate. "Chika" is a great example of melody meeting the dance floor, and the subtleties stay with you long after the song is over. The album's highlight is "Skriek" as it meanders through a lush keyboard melody with an understated beat following on its footsteps. It's a great late night listening companion, and this song flirts ever so delicately with the more ambient tones of Ulrich Schnauss, or even Thomas Fehlmann.

The songs on New Folder are given a lot of time to breathe, and most last over seven minutes. This is a very good thing as tracks of this style need to build, expand, and then lightly drift away. This is perfect music to play loudly as you drive down a country road at dusk.
