Book Description

June 4, 2004 Glucose Revolution
With each passing day, yet another health, diet, and nutrition expert or author gets on the glycemic index (GI) bandwagon. In 2003 The South Beach Diet joined New York Times best-selling books by Dr. Andrew Weil, Harvard's Dr. Walter Willett, Dr. Robert Atkins, Dr. Barry Sears, and many others in advocating taking into account the GI values of foods as a key element in a healthy, lifelong diet. But the authoritative source of information on the GI remains the Glucose Revolution series—and The New Glucose Revolution Life Plan is the book that situates the GI within today's complete nutrition picture. Both an introduction to the benefits of low-GI foods and an essential source of new information for those already familiar with the concept, it charts a clear course through today's complicated nutrition maze—and offers easy-to-follow guidelines for choosing the right diet. This new edition has been revised throughout in two-color with an 8-page photo insert featuring some of the fifty delicious, easy-to-prepare recipes offered in the book, as well as a complete, up-to-date table of GI and new glycemic load values for more than eight hundred foods and beverages.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Glucose Revolution Life Plan, September 2, 2007
This review is from: The New Glucose Revolution Life Plan: Discover How to Make the Glycemic Index the Foundation for a Lifetime of Healthy Eating (Paperback)
I was very skeptical about this method of blood glucose control, but after a friend tried it and lost five pounds, I thought I'd give it a try.

I shop according to the pantry lists in the book and find that my family's overall food costs have decreased - along with my weight, thanks to the "bigger bodies" meal plan sample. Also, it gives a couple of different nutrient profiles (% cho, % fat, % pro) to choose from. I like the Paleolithic profile (Caveman), personally.

I like most of the recipes in the book and am able to change them a little to suit my tastes while maintaining the nutritional integrity of the dish. The food is not dull or boring. I really like the meal suggestions - they teach me what my meals need to "look" like. The authors even included a meal planner suitable for kids, which is great, since Type II is a hereditary condition.

Best of all, I have been able to reduce my bg levels to a normal range, lose weight and have A LOT of energy to get the execise in that completes my lifestyle goal.

There are couple of recipes that sounded like something I would like, but turned out not very tasty, so I scored the book a "4". Still, I highy recommend this book.

I am a skeptic, turned believer.

My granddaughter has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, and my husband and I are overweight and pre-diabetic. I wanted a book that explained to me the differences in carbohydrates. This book does it very, very well. And not only explains it, gives great practical advice on how to implement a more intelligent diet.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Single Most Effective Eating Plan I've Ever Seen, November 19, 2008
This review is from: The New Glucose Revolution Life Plan: Discover How to Make the Glycemic Index the Foundation for a Lifetime of Healthy Eating (Paperback)
I first discovered the Glucose Revolution series almost 9 years ago while working to lose the last few pounds of baby weight. I'd been up and down the scale for many years and had tried dozens of weight-loss plans. After reading the original Glucose Revolution Life Plan, I tossed out the calorie counter and started watching the glycemic counts for foods. I never looked back. I've maintained a svelte figure ever since and I eat regular meals and snacks (including dark chocolate with nuts!), both at home and while dining out. I subsequently used the Glucose Revolution books extensively while researching my own books and often take it to my presentations so audiences can see it when I address weight loss and blood sugar control. This is one of the most essential books you can read for longevity, health and weight loss, and this new version is better than ever.
