5.0 out of 5 stars Good intro to Golden Dawn magickal tradition, November 29, 2009
This review is from: The New Golden Dawn Ritual Tarot: Keys to the Rituals, Symbolism, Magic and Divination (Llewellyn's New Age Tarot Series) (Paperback)
This book uses the Ciceros' tarot as a way to introduce basic Golden Dawn ritual and divination. The book provides nothing new to advanced practitioners, but may be of interest to those trying to learn more about the approach taken by this organization. While I agree with the other reviewer that I think that the origins of the Tarot lie in other places than the authors suggest, this is somewhat off the mark in that this is a book about a specific organization's teachings.

The book consists of roughly three sections. The beginning contains the authors' approaches to the Golden Dawn teachings regarding the Tree of Life, a brief history of the Golden Dawn in the United States, and related topics. This is followed by a description of the cards (as the Golden Dawn saw them). These are followed by ritual discussions (LBRP and related rituals, opening by watchtower, etc). Finally divination is covered.

All in all, this book is a very good introduction to the Golden Dawn approach. It is more accessible than anything Regardie wrote, for example. All in all, I would highly recommend this book to those looking for such an introduction.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacking true intuitive wisdom of the Tarot......way too intelectual and speculative, July 7, 2006

G. Iwanski "G Dude" (West side-Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The New Golden Dawn Ritual Tarot: Keys to the Rituals, Symbolism, Magic and Divination (Llewellyn's New Age Tarot Series) (Paperback)
When I first bought this book back in 93', I just started studying the kabbalah and other aspects of the western tradition. It was what I needed then. But now, after 13 years of meditation and deep spiritual growth and change. I have found that the pictures of the tarot are more Gnostic,Orpic...and VEDIC, than it is kaballistic.
The authors interpetation is almost all dry, overly mental/intellectual,speculative kabbalistic stance. His own painting of the the cards is much too Modern art and abstract for me.The pictures seem almost childish and too square-like to me. Yes, the hebrew alpha. corresponds to certain major arcana, but, the deeper Gnostic/Vedic intuitive understanding was not grasped by the author...I could be wrong.
When I was younger, I grew tremendously from this book. But, now, percieving the actual Gnostic/Vedic meaning of the tarot, which A. E. Waite understood,.... this book....It was very dry on an intuitive/feeling level. There was a lack of inner intuitive, soulful understanding of each of the major arcana. In the back of the book, the interpretation of each of the major arcana wasnt all that helpful. It is a good book for beginners. And, to answer the below comment...the Rider-Waite deck is still the best. It adheres to the original Gnostic,Orphic,Hermetic and vedic intuitive/inner meaning of the cards. Alot of the card decks that came after this one are not in accordance with the original principles, but, the speculations of the individuals that made them. The below commentor said that I have my own interpretation of the cards of the deck. If you actually study and practice Gnosticism, orphism, Hermetica, vedic principles and study from the B.O.T.A for about a decade and most importantly, meditate on the cards....you will find that what I said is the TRUTH. The Tarot is nothing but the journey of The SOUL through this material world and Her mastery and triumph over the inclinations of the body, mind, ego and most importantly...AWAKENING to the the Truth that the Soul is spark of God, and in that Awakening this material world and our lower inclinations no longer affect us...hence, "The World" trumph card...The triumph and mastery of The Soul.
