In this fascinating volume, china-ware expert Geoffrey Godden shows how collectable and decorative New Hall Porcelain is. The factory produced over three thousand patterns which served to enhance a long series of attractive yet very functional forms. They were welcomed for their excellence over a period of over fifty years, from 1782 to 1835. The success of these pleasing Staffordshire porcelains in the marketplace helped to turn the Staffordshire Potteries, then famed only for its earthenwares, into a porcelain-producing centre of world importance. This review is from: New Hall Porcelains (Hardcover)
I am totally hooked on Geoffrey Godden's work! He takes particular delight in original research, and by research I mean digging around in pits of shards at the sites of old pottery factories, and digging around in archival materials to find the gold among the dross. Whatever area of British china you may be interested in, start with Godden. This book on New Hall porcelain is no exception and is beautifully researched, written and illustrated. Highly recommended.
