Dub Trio is one of the few bands that can open for Mike Patton (featured on this record), reggae legends The Wailers, hip-hop MC Beans, electro-pioneers Meat Beat Manifesto, firebrand Capleton, jazz-funkers Soulive, and electronica maestro Prefuse 73 (all of which they did in 2005). It speaks volumes about their music’s versatility; one minute it’s gummy dub, the next it’s chest-beating, chug-a-lug metal, shredding punk, and bleeped-out electronic psychedelia. At its best, Dub Trio’s music is simultaneously all these and more. Their sophomore album, aptly-titled NEW HEAVY, is undoubtedly a rock record that retains enough dubby elements to save the boys a name-change: "Dub is the foundation. It’s in everything we do, whether it’s the structure, the effects, or the bass line. It’s what all other elements are based on. You hear that even on the heaviest parts of the new record." – Joe Tomino, drummer New Heavy is indeed heavy, and hard. It references Metallica more than Marley, and features the one and only MIKE PATTON (Faith No More, Mr Bungle, Tomahawk, Fantomas) on “Not Alone,” which Billboard Magazine describes as “an old school Faith No More-style rocker.” How did this collaboration come about? Simple. Mike Patton heard Dub Trio’s music. Yep, that’s all it took. I have to admit, I've never been the biggest fan of dub, but Dub Trio do it well enough to leave me wanting more, probably because this is no straight up dub album - New Heavy really brings the rock! The group create the perfect balance between dub and rock, sick hard metal beats one moment then raw dub the next. It's great - the album really shows off Dub Trio's versatility and skill as musicians.

I first heard about this album off Mike Patton's Peeping Tom project but the version of "Not Alone" on New Heavy is by far better! I just gotta say I am really enjoying this album.

I used to be a big dub trio fan... now i'm a huge dub trio fan!

this album rocks...yepp that's right... you might say, a dub band that rocks? but hell yea, start with some crazy punk or metal riffs, and cut it on the dime, and they're playing the sickest stripped down dub... then back to some more rockin' riffs... loving it, best of both worlds on this record.. and these guys can really really play...Mike Patton, yes Mike patton guest vocals on one song, so good and catchy and Faith no More esque.

Dub Trio is one of the most original new bands around. There live show is spectacular and they know how to create amazing sounds that no other band has ever made. They have Mike Patton from Faith No More on "We're Not Alone" which is one of the best songs of the year, and is also featured on Mike Patton's new album "Peeping Tom". Check out this band!!!!!
