Constant quest,
By Charlie Trece (Los Angeles) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Horizons (Audio CD)
One thing the band Airborne is never afraid of it's the constant quest for "new horizons" musically speaking. And its latest effort not only proves the eclectic flavor of its music, it tiltes this new material: "New Horizons" quite adequately. The Borino brothers (Thomas on keyboards and Greg on guitars) plus saxman Thomas Sanzone put together a solid work throughout the album with some impressive cuts. The single "Diggin the Atmosphere" is a soft groove with beautiful flute harmonies played by Thomas Sanzone but there are other pearls worth mentioning. The cover of an R&B classic like Bobby Hebb's "Sunny" is awesome with vocalist Elizabeth Dellinger adding talent to Thomas and Greg Borino piano and guitar impecable solos respectively. "Take Me Away" with a smooth latin flavor where Eddie Rivera sings choirs in Spanish is a delightful track. "One World" another Latin exploration with strong salsa roots brings a message of unity. The opening song "Sunrise" is another beautifully arranged melody with Borino brothers and Thomas Sanzone (flute) alternating the lead. Even a rendition of a jazz standard like Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child" is taken with an interesting approach and title's track in the end shows the importance of a positive outlook as a world vision which Airborne made it its trade-mark. This is a superb album which takes the listener to a colorful voyage of melodies combined with thoughtful messages and it shouldn't be missed if the listener is ready to explore "New Horizons".

SmoothJazz.com Review,
By Sandy Shore (Monterey, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: New Horizons (Audio CD)
At this point in world history, the concept of maintaining a positive outlook and vibe isn't just a nice idea... it's critical to our survival as a species. The multi-cultural contemporary jazz group Airborne not only shares this philosophy, but has also imbued every one of their albums with it. NEW HORIZONS, their latest project, contains a dozen brilliantly crafted examples of their trademark jazz/island passion/urban emotion music... and once again shows Airborne to be the pre-eminent voice for positive change for the jazz community. They truly are the "musical peacemakers" of contemporary (Smooth Jazz). If you're already a fan, getting a copy of NEW HORIZONS won't require a second thought. If Airborne is new to you, acquiring the project will not only raise your positivity as you listen, but will also support the work of creative individuals who really get what being a citizen of this world is all about! ~SCOTT O'BRIEN
