Modern Classic Typewriters,

Perhaps the state of the art during that period of history when typewriters were used, the IBM Correcting Selectric III is NOT light weight. At approx 30 lbs or more, a great deal of steel was used in this American-made machine. The fact that most all parts are still made and most of those typewriters are STILL IN USE speaks to the unique quality of this machine. Older IBM computer keyboards were known as (albeit heavy)some of the finest & sturdiest ever produced. The typewriter that originated the "solid feel" is worth every penny for those who would want one. This is the last of the great American office machines.
Typewriters are really a unique item and in terms of a "modern" examples, the IBM Selectric is as classic as a Fender Telecaster. In terms of utility, the typewriter would be used for the input of typed material on individual items & thus it's utility is limited. However from a collector's standpoint this model is the zenith of that machine's genre'. For people who collect various items it's VERY possible that this IBM will skyrocket in value in time. From a standpoint of actual utility, this is really the only typewriter to consider. Every detail of this machine is top grade in construction; from a time when American products were made with high skill & elements of them were never skimped upon; this machine is truly state of the art. During the time in "office machine history; just prior to the age of computers, the fact that this was in use for nearly a decade after business computer's were introduced, speaks to it's powerful longevity, quality, & utility. And quite frankly, it's simply the best typewriter made.

A Classic -- still useful,

I have had a correcting Selectric III on my office desk for the past five years or so and find I use it nearly every day. It's great for odd-sized envelopes, address labels, FedEx and UPS forms, and anything else where I have to do anything besides print on an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet of paper (which my laser printer does so well!). Parts and supplies (ribbons, correcting tape, print balls) are easily available.
As the previous review states perfectly and accurately -- this typewriter is rock solid, probably the best piece of office gear ever built. I just bought a clean clean second unit ($25!! - an unbelievable steal) from a Craigslist seller, which I will use at home.
