They haven't updated it in almost 2 years so if they don't change it at all we can assume that it may be discontinued, because the iPod Touch is expected to get a 128gb model. Personally I would rather pay $250 for 160gb rather than $400 for 128gb.
Getting to that time of year again and I'm really hoping the Classic does get updated with a bigger hard drive (320Gb). I'm way over 200Gb with my music collection and hate having to shave songs from my iTunes library to rotate through my iPod. I work offshore for 6 weeks at a time and like having all my music with me.
Don't get me wrong: the iPod Classis works great, looks great and is truly an amazing piece of gizmoid. However: Apple has completely failed to do anything to update it in years! They recently, to much ballyhoo, trotted out some updates of their smaller models. The Classic? Still 160 GB. WHY? Over the past years the cost of memory has plunged. At the same time, people are obtaining and trying to store more and more digital media, both music and video. So how has Apple responded to this need for greater storage space? It hasn't. In my case, I'm down to the last 7 Gb and wondering what the heck I'm going to do when I max out. Are you listening, Apple? Apparently not, and at a time of dirt-cheap memory and but total reliance on the part of consumers on digital media for our entertainment, this earns Apple a big, fat "BOOOOO."
