Money, Cars, Women, Cars, Money....,
By
This review is from: New Jack City, Pt. II (Audio CD)
How many songs can one come up with that outlines the money you make, the women you sleep with, and the car you were driving when you picked up the woman you were sleeping with? I am tired of Bow Wow and his lame, redundant songs that he comes out with. It is sad really because he is a talented young man but it just becomes daunting after a while. He cannot rap about anything else because he always had money coming in. There was no struggle so the music is coming from fluff and it is so sad. Bow Wow, I will listen to you when you take a break, go through something real like LIFE, and then come back with a message worth hearing. Otherwise, please stop rapping! Thank you for your consideration!

Just short of what I expect at this point,
This review is from: New Jack City, Pt. II (Audio CD)
Bow Wow has grown with every album and I was expecting more of a harder hitting album I know he's not gangsta or anything but I want more anger more aggressive lyrics I know he's gotta get mad from time to time. But all said still solid cd I bump it.

Liked the CD okay, but liked "You can get it all" the best. Was kind of disappointed in this one.

Bow Wow seems to have made the transition from child star to a man right in front our eyes. He's certainly come a long way from Snoop Dogg's video and playing basketball. His lyrical ability has also improved dramatically. He's really not that bad of a rapper anymore and I'm all for improvement between albums. We already knew he could flow but it was him always saying something lame.
New Jack City II presents a theme of pulling samples from the "new jack" era as he samples S.O.S. Band (get their greatest hits ASAP then the albums!), Bobby Brown, and TLC. And those songs where he does that happen to be the best songs. Pole In My Basement (Drumma Boy) seems to be the best song in my opinion but also She's My (a smooth rendition of Bobby Brown's classic), Like This, You Can Get It All, and Been Doin This. If I had a choice between this album and the new Jim Jones then I would choose New Jack City II in a new york minute. I admit I had pretty low expectations coming into this album but was pleasantly surprised with a few real bangers. I know Bow Wow flopped on the charts with this album but it really isn't as bad as that or the critics would suggest. This is easily the best Bow Wow album I've heard and from my past reviewing his albums (I gave one of his albums a flat zero...) that should at least count for something. If he continues to make music then I will look forward to see how he develops as an artist. 3 stars.

This is Bow Wow's greatest album since 2003 undercredited "unleashed". While "Unleashed" was great touching on personal and social, "New Jack City 2' has Bow Wow at his most confident, and romantic. He's far from "puppy love" with the loving "like this" and freaky but fun "pole in my basement". On "You can get it all" he shies away from autotunes and instead sings over the TLC sample. If you dont like Bow Wow or can't admit you do then the TI assisted "Been doing this" is a great song for you. It features Bow Wow's fast delivery that he started with and can be likened to his midwest roots as most of those rappers have a clear faster flow. Here he says it doesn't matter what you say, he's an accomplished rapper and has been for a decade. This album has a great feature with rising Grammy nominated singer Trey Songz on the addicting "I ain't playin". Also an instant song to fall in love with is "She My" which makes great use of an old classic Bobby Brown song.
This album is fun. It's not lyrically a smash as it appeases to his young adult fans and not the hip hop heads. He understands his true demographic. Even those rap fans will find "what they call me " and "Get that paper" to be right up their alley. They can also check his mixtapes "Half man half dog 1 and 2' which give lines and metaphors. JD is back which gives the album it's title. Like the New Jack City film characters Bow and jD are a great pair. Bow is very comfortable over his tracks and you can HEAR his charsima in the songs. This album gives great energy and doesn't dumb things down for the kids. This is from a 22year old multiplatinum rapper and it's a good product. If you ever thought to buy a Bow Wow album and give him a full listen this is the album to try.
