Book Description

March 15, 2005 Best Hikes with Children
Big fun for little feet-discover the best hikes for kids in the Garden State

*85 hikes chosen for kid appeal (15 trails new to this fully revised edition) *Short, fun hikes between 1 to 8 miles, clearly rated easy to difficult *Tips on hiking with children and engaging them in the natural world

From the northern highlands of New Jersey to the beaches and pine barrens in the south, this popular guide is written from a child's eye view (but always emphasizes safety). Kids can check out an accessible beaver colony along the trail at Heddon Park; scamper over huge boulders while overlooking the Hudson River; or look for ersatz diamonds on a Cape May Beach. 4.0 out of 5 stars 75 great ideas for stimulating mind and body, November 9, 1999
By A Customer
This book is very well laid out from the initial NJ map showing the location of all the sites to the pertinent information given at the beginning of each hike, the excellent site maps and the handy signs in the margins. The writing is clear, interesting, filled with geological and historical background information, points of interest, helpful suggestions and cautionary notes. I have ventured out on several of the hikes and they've been great. Would recommend to anyone interested in hiking in The Garden State, with or without children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference!, September 11, 2004
I love this book. I just got it a few weeks ago and we have hiked each week since I got it. I find it easy to use. I love that it ranks the difficulty of the hike. I have a 5 yr old and a 7 year old. This book makes it easy for planning an afternoon trip vs an all day adventure. It also tells you things like if the trail is "bugy" in the summer or if you need to wear long pants because it is a "thorny" hike. Lots of great & useful tools.

5.0 out of 5 stars A useful book covering the entire state, July 23, 1999
By A Customer
Many long-time New Jersey residents have never truly explored all the state has to offer. This easy-to-read book guides us to a variety of family-friendly places with clear maps and directions. It's a great way to get outdoors and see the state.
